Second installment of shaving with a Fiddleback. This time, I took along some Friends of Fiddlebacks (WAS and Fetcher Knives) and let the barber (my wife) have fun with trying an assortment. Again, not me in the chair. I do not let my wife get that close to me (especially my throat) with a sharp object. It's purely a survival instinct :)

This was done at a professional babershop (www.kennesawbarbershop.com) and my wife is a Master Barber. *wavier - dont try this at home*

The line up from L to R

Fiddleback Asp - 1/8" O1 tapered tang in Ironwood
Fiddleback Hiking Buddy - 3/32" O1 in Ironwood Burl
WAS Minuteman - I think it's 3/32" CPM 154 tapered tang bolstered Ironwood
Fletcher Knives Estaban - 5/32" O1 w/nat canvas

So who is the brave soul in the chair?

One of her regular customers .. who's also a fellow LEO. She asked, 'mind if I use this? (showing the Fiddleback) for your shave' .. and he said, 'go for it'.

That's pretty cool.

I'd like to try this myself but I'd probably cut my throat, lol

Were the knives sharpened in specific way before she could shave with them?

Nice. Fiddlebacks do come direct from the shop with a pretty keen edge. This is a good testament to that.

Not sure I'd let my wife near my neck with a sharp object either

No. From the Forge edge - but every one was run against a bare leather strop couple times.

That's pretty impressive!

My Bushboot (my only Fiddleback up to now) didn't really arrive that sharp to be honest. I wouldn't say it came dull either, but it could use a little more sharpness imo. I have been stropping mine with green compound for about ten minutes every evening since I got it (that totals up to about 8 hours on the strop now) and it's almost where I want it now, but I still think it needs a slightly steeper edge to be honest. But perhaps I'm just comparing it to my scandi's too much, idk.

Cool post nevertheless, that lady of yours got some mad skills

The wife did a video collage of the shave day.

To echo Rob, that video collage is a very nice addition to the thread. I like the background music too. :thumb up:

Thanks,

Phil

Hey Bud, tell Mrs. Bonafide that I am really impressed with the pics and video. Do you mind me using it on the website? Would you mind bringing me the full video and set of pics on a thumb drive next time you come by? Also, I am loving that pic of your runt collection. Can you e-mail me the full sized pic so I can use it as my desktop?

Of course - more than welcome to use any of the pics/video.
I'll bring the thumb drive next week.
