Since I really dont carry a knife with me all the time...I have a question for those of you who do carry your Spyderco every day...Do you guys use it for every day little tasks or is it pretty much there for when that special situation calls for it ?? Thanks...

I carry two Spyderco knives with me almost constantly. First is a blue G-10 BF Native, either clipped in my pocket or in a River City Sheaths neck sheath. The second is a burgundy Micarta Jester on my keyring. Both are used regularly for anything that needs cutting :D

They're there for when they're handy. Will food need to be prepped? Will time need to be spent whittling? Will kungfu need to be practiced? Will boxes need to be opened? Will fabric need cutting when scissors don't abound?

Vyper005,

You should carry whenever you can. When holidays come around and unwrapped gifts need to be unpackaged, the habit of always having a lightweight Clipit of some kind on you will be revealed as useful. You should probably buy an ATR when they're available so you can always have one handy.

My Spyderco is my backup knife on duty. I use a plain edge for most everything, and the Endura (full spydie edge) is my "when I need to saw through clothing or the seat belt" knife. I don't carry my Endura off duty...I have other knives for that. (CF Police coming soon)

thombrogan,
I think I lied...I do carry all the time cause I forgot I have a little Ladybug on my keychain !! I really meant the larger knives though...

Right now I'm showing off my Strider SnG. Usually it's my Benchmade 941S Osborne or 750BT. On Duty it's my Strider-Buck SB2 with my Spyderco. However I have a CF Police and a Millie coming soon.:D

My knives get used for everything. mail, lunch, cleanup, work...

I have a good variety of edges and sizes to use, so I'm never looking for a knife. Today was(so far):

prying open stapler(love those jams), open 2 envelopes(at least the banks like[yah right] me enough to give me mail), slice off a few slabs of meat for lunch, cut and butter my bun, cut a tag off a toy, and open the plastic from a CD.

I have 3 knives on 24/7 carry, and all 3 got used today so far. putting my fixed on today, and it'll probably see use for supper in cooking.

I carry 2 Spydies on a daily basis:

*A stainless fully-serrated Police model which NEVER gets used to cut anything, as it's my dedicated "defensive/offensive folder".

*A stainless plain-edge Delica which sees use daily, as it's my "utility folder".

So, I guess you could say that one is for show, and one is for go.:).

I carry my Gunting everyday and that one never gets used as a utility knife.

That job ususally goes to my G10 Police, AFCK or Sebenza...whichever one I happen to carry that day.

If I put away my knife, in the next five minutes there's something requiring cutting, stabing, making a hole or something, that's why I carry a knife everytime. Usually for regular cutting chores, but for emergency situatons too.

Huh? Does not compute! Does not compute!

Carry a knife on you all the time for awhile - a Spyderco knife - and I think you'll get your answer.

My Delica and Endura are used on a daily basis. I ended up selling my large and small Sebenzas because I found that I was using my Spydercos pretty much full time. It's a great feeling to have a knife that you're not afraid to use/lose/abuse.

I always carry a big knife and a little one, at work and off duty. I usually reserve my bigger knife, IE one of several Spydercos for important stuff, Cutting seatbelts, rope, people who are trying to take my gun etc..... All the mundane tasks get farmed out to my SAK Soldier or Tinker thats with me 24 a day also. I just can't see beating up the edge on the big knife on staples, cardboard, tape and all the other stuff I cut on a daily basis.

My FRN Endura SE, that I carry for work EDC, sees HARD use everyday cutting rubber hose, manila rope, duct tape, cardboard, etc.. :D

Today my Spydie went through what I considered to be the ultimate test for the SpyderEdge, when I cut a 55 gallon drum  made of 1/2" heavy duty cardboard ...and it passed with flying colors. Besides the blade being a little warm to the touch when I was finished, the edge didn't lose any of its' bite. That VG10 is simply awesome!!

I used to carry a PE anodized cricket, but have since replaced it with a PE Calypso Jr. It's generally just there and is used for anything that needs cutting *except* food.

Don't quite know why, but I just get a bit uncomfortable w the combined idea of anything thats been in my pocket all month long coming into contact w food that'll end up in me, and of having a greasy spyderco in my pocket...

Does anyone here actually whip out their EDC thats been used on strings, boxes, paper, and everything else, when they sit at a dinner table that has a crummy steak knife, and chow?

I use mine between 20 and 40 times a day.99% light cutting.

Last night I used my new Millie to slice two loaves of French bread at a friend's house for our home group dinner. There wasn't a knife in the house sharp enough, except for the Millie of course. That thing gives a whole new meaning to "a hot knife through butter".

I have a few that are my "work" knives. When something needs to be cut, they(Ti-Police-SE, Vesuvius-PE, and Endura-SE) get it done. Then I have a few that are "emergency" only knives. Always sharp, always ready.
