Is Z60DCV14 the same as AUS-6?

Z60CDV14

A clean high carbon stainless from Sweden. Higher in Nickel and Molybdenum than AUS-8, with a little less Carbon. Chosen for a balance between ease of sharpening and edge retention.

Carbon 0.6 to 0.65%, Manganese 0.45%, Chromium 14%, Nickel 0.15%, Vanadium 0.15 to 0.2%, Molybdenum 0.55 to 0.6%

CDV is the same as DCV?

First off, Welcome to BF!:) Secondly, I like your username (I can tell you won't be starting a "Benchmade vs. Spyderco" thread anytime soon)!:D

Now, about Z60CDV14. All I know about it is what I found on A.G. Russell's website, which is where I suspect you got the info you posted. The only knife I've had with it as a blade steel was a CRKT Contrail. I would rate the steel somewhere between CRKT's AUS-6 and AUS-8 in terms of edge holding, though, on paper (the carbon content and so on), the steel certainly appears more akin to AUS-6 than AUS-8. The only other knife company I know of that uses it is Xicar: http://www.agrussell.com/knives/by_maker/s_through_z/xikar/xikar_extreme.html , though they appear to only be making their new knives out of 440A.

Thank you for the welcome. I like both Benchmade and Spyderco. I saw a post about the Contrails on sale and ordered several. I didn't realize how tiny 2.4" is. Maybe I'll give them to my lady friends.
