Accoring to David Nicolle "Saladin and the Saraceens" Osprey Series:
The training of Fatamid troops largely seems to have involved the cavalry. It was based upon hujras, military schools in a around the palace. Here recruits were placed under the authority of an ustadth in one of a series of dormitories, each of which had a warlike name.
Training in archery, swordmanship, horsemanship and other military arts took three to seven years." Pages 14-15.

Does anyone know whether there are any military manuals on these military tactics especially swordmanship have survived up to date?

This question has been a main issue for all of us in SFI Islamic Swordforum.

Thanks.

Out of my league, Man, but if one spent 7 years in training seems he would be pretty fit and ready for the field.

Amu Bill,

exactly I was thinking about 7 years as well. It should have been very tiring though!! Specially for a city guy like me:) !

Like most who served I spend less than 4 years total in military srvice. Training for 7 is very serious business.
