Hello,
Has anyone heard of the aforementioned school? The instructor is an instructor under the late Remy Presas, and teaches his Modern Arnis. I'm considering trying them out, and wondered if anyone had any experiences.

Thanks,
Larry

Renegade,

I'm interested in knife and stick, but wouldn't mind more hand. Any experiences?

Larry

If you're looking for a good Combat instructor I would check out Tim Murray. He teaches at:

Midtown Martial Arts
1020 Cedar Avenue
St. Charles, IL 60174
(630) 584-0007

I second Tim Murray wholeheartedly. Best instructor I have ever had and have had some fine ones indeed. His stuff is based out of experience more than theory, down to earth, practical, H2H second to none, knifework that is entirely based out of practicality, stickwork that is not based out of forms and drills but rather what may be if worse case comes to be. Oh, you call him Tim, too. No BS guy all the way around.

Tim is second black Modern Arnis. Email me for more info.

Renegade, when you coming back to town? I need a knifey fix!

As the others mentioned, it depends on what you are looking for. If you have a real interest in "Modern Arnis", I would highly recommend that particular school. Master Smith is an excellent Modern Arnis practitioner and is one of only a handful to be awarded the title of "Master Of Tapi-Tapi" from Remy. However, the art of Modern Arnis has definitely changed over the years. It seems they tend to favor the flow drill called Tapi-Tapi more than the combative drills taught in other Filipino systems.

If you are looking for some hardcore stick, knife, and empty-hand material I would suggest that you check out W. Hock Hochheim's Archipelago Combatives. He has an instructor in the Chicago area named Randy Nichols. Randy is a good guy and he knows his stuff. You can get contact info at http://www.hockscqc.com search the instructor list. Randy also has a website for his school but can't remember the url.

Hope this helps,
