Isle of Man Sebenza

So my wife was watching the CRK DVD with me when she saw the Sebenza with the Isle of Man (with 2 cat silhouettes). Anyone have any info on this knife? One-off? Special run?

For those that don't know, the Isle of Man is an island between England and Ireland. It's the home of true motorcycle racing (IMO). And its the origin for a breed of cats called Manx. Their tails are almost non-existent.

TIA
John

IBelieve there was another Isle of Man run sebenzas that were not gold coin to commerate a bike race.

Here's a picture of one without the gold coin.

Thanks All!

She loves the cats on the Gold Coin version. If I wanted a motorcycle knife, the TT version that Framers has would be the ticket.

Only 10 TT Large Sebenzas were produced and are nothing to do with the gold coin version. With Chris's love of motorbikes and bike racing, he, along with a couple of friends came over to the UK in 2007 and spent 3 weeks here with Frank Kay ( Framars ) his UK CRK dealer who also has Chris's passion for motorbike racing and the 4 of them spent 2 weeks on the Isle of Man for the 100th TT race meet. One evening over a few beers Chris decided he was going to produce a very limited run of 'unique graphic' sebenza's to commenorate this meeting. The design was all Chris's work, within the outline to the Island is the TT road track and on the track are 3 star points, these were Chris's favorite viewing points to watch the racing. The other 2 points are where he enjoyed spending the evenings!
I have 2 of these, 2 more are with another collector in the Uk and 1 is in Europe, the rest are in Franks Safe for a rainy day! Liza did not machine the graphics I believe it was a guy called Merlin within the factory.
Are these special? for a collector of CR knives they must be, not many graphics on Sebanza's are actually designed by the man himself and most dealer specials produced are in large runs. Also, when you consider that only 21 of his 21st anniversary sebenza were produced plus 25 pre-production numbered Ti Locks, 10 TT sebenza's is not a lot for a production run.

This is my 1st post and I hope it explains how this sebenza came to life.

First off welcome to the forums, and thank you for such an insightful post. I know i'm not the only one around here that loves to hear the history that went into making theese great knives.

Not any more! I've just ordered a Large TT from Frank and can't wait for it to arrive. It is obviously the top one in the photo. The bottom 2 are not mine unfortunately......

The TT in the photo arrived today and it's great! In the meantime I couldn't resist the small 2011 annual either, so that's on its way too.:p

I'm planning on using these knives, so they won't be looking pristine like on the photo soon. Do you guys and gals think I'm nuts for using these beauties or do you agree its the thing to do?

Why would you want to use the TT sebenza with only 10 made? these are rarer than the 21st anniversary sebenza.

Cool stuff, and I had never realized that the Isle of Man was a seperate island. I've only seen it referenced in passing in a few fiction books, I had always assumed it was another name for Ireland or something. :) Sorry, New Mexico education, ranked 49th in the nation.

Two questions to answer this question:

1st: How many Sebenzas do you have? If you have 20 of them like some collectors, then there might not be any reason to actually use this one. Just enjoy having it. If its your only Sebenza, then use the crap out of it.

2nd: Do you ever plan to sell it? If you're buying this with the intention of selling it in 5 or 10 years, then no, don't use it. If you plan to keep it forever, then sure use it.

That being said, your call. Personnally I only have three Sebs all which mean something to me, don't plan to sell them, so I use them. The fact that it's "1 of 10" or whatever really doesn't mean much to me. Being able to carry around something that does mean something to me (such as the Isle of Man to you apparently) trumps collecting. But everyone has their own idea on where to draw that line.

To answer these questions:

I like having only one/few of a particular type of knife. Might have something to do with my upbringing but I hate the feeling of excess when I have a lot of "almost" the same objects. However I really like "special" knives. So what I usually do is buy only a few very special knives and use them and sell the ones I'm not using (I've sold more than 10 Chris Reeves and currently own only 5). This way I can enjoy these useful objects of art daily. I never buy them as an investment and don't mind losing a bit when selling them, although with CRKs I haven't lost a lot selling them either. I'm not planning on ever selling this TT.

So I guess I might have the only user-TT in the world :D and I love it!
