Yesterday I got a Cabelas mailer for their "Employee Pricing" sale. Went to my local Cabela's and picked up the cutest mini Grip I've ever seen.

Normally I'm not one to jump on the pink tools band wagon. Usually I find most "pink tools" to be crappy and well, pretty patronizing ("cause the color is the only thing that's important to us wimmin" - LOL). :barf:

This one was different. Love the hot pink. Love the D2 steel (and uncoated which is uncommon for Cabelas). Love that it comes with a polished split arrow clip instead of the standard black painted ones. Got a screaming deal on too. With the current Cabelas "Employee pricing" mailing, I got it for $78. Not bad in the era of Benchmade enforcing MAP pricing.

I side benefit is that with the hot pink, it's really easy to find the knife if I misplace it. Plus, most of the guys I work with are probably less likely to "borrow" it :playful:

Very cool... $78 is a great buy for a D2 Mini. I see they carried over the new scale texture to the pink versions. It may be cute, but the Grips are a workhorse that are almost indestructible.

Until you mentioned it, I totally didn't see that the scales have a different texture. I really like it. Also, the blade grind is symentric and centering is spot on. Cabela's had four in stock and I picked the best of the bunch (two were wayyy too off with their grinds).

That is cool you were able to choose from a few, and find a really good one. The first use of that scale pattern was recently on the new sand colored Mini's.
I like that they chose to use silver hardware instead of black. It looks like it came from the Custom build program.

I like the looks of the new pattern more. Feels good in hand. I suppose the traditional pattern might offer slightly more traction, but not enough to me to make it significant. The mini Grip scales never bothered be like the ones on the full size griptilian. The full size ones have that "hollow" sound that make an otherwise outstanding knife sound a bit cheap.

Very happy with it overall. My only concern is corrosion given that it's D2 steel.

I have a desert tan in the new scales from cabelas and don't like them. They are actually slightly wider at the axis area so it changes the feel there when closing. If you're use to the original you should notice it. The bottoms of scales where the blade falls through are larger. If there are any centering issues the blade will rub. I finally carved them back to look like the old style. They are quite a bit more smooth than the originals. I think they took a step backward with these. It is a Griptilian, after all.
