I haven't been aroung much lately but I did notice the thread for naming that new ridged blade with the desert coating when I logged in recently. I didn't read all of the ideas or even try to make a few entries of my own. I'm drawing a blank. Teh only word that come to my mind seeing that thing is awesome! I did note that the naming contest seemed to bring out all sorts of folks who have as few as 1 post or just a handful of them. I'm bettin' that if you took a guy who had three or four posts and looked at all their posts, they would all be in that thread.

Do you old timers aften see this sort of leeching activity during these things? If so, how many of these first time posters actually stick around after they try to win a free knife? Seem sort of wrong to me if someone like that won a blade, got the prestige of naming it and then never came back. Maybe that is just me, heck I don't know. I pledge not to take part in any naming contests until I have made at least a 500 posts in this forum and contributed to it in some way I personally feel was worth while for the group.

Sorry for the little rant, but it was just bothering me a bit.

Root on hoggies!

You make a great point. I have been around here since 2000, although my old forum name was "Steven Cobb" until I lost the password. I think the main problem is people that post a lot of crap just to get their # of post's up and I have to filter through it to read anything worthwhile. Quality is much more important than quantity.

Well, it's a naming contest, isn't it? Busse's looking for a name... not looking to reward communicative people who are constant posters on this forum.

Ha, add one more to my # of posts. :p :D ;)

No but seriously. Yes it does pull alot of people out of the woodwork. I think if 1 out of 10 or 20 people stay then it might be worth it. That one person might turn out to be a really cool addition to the group. They could end up learning a lot and in return passing their knowledge on to others. That could start a whole chain of events that could introduce multitudes of people to the joys of knife use and collecting. This could produce a knife friendly world.

Just a thought. :)

Don't get too touchy Yuri, you aren't in the catagory I was referencing. Looking at your posts you are active in many other places. I am talking about the knuckle heads who have posts in not other forums except this one and no other threads but the knife naming things and giveaways.

I was just saying that wouldn't it be a shame if someone, who really had no other interest in it than a free knife, were to win the darn thing. If I were even a customer of even medium buying power, I would be irked by such a situation. Like I said, I am a newbie here and I was just making an observation.

I agree that quality is much better than quantity. Like I said I was talking about the guys who only post every time Mr. Busse is giving something away, that is all. I know there are all sorts of folks on here who post just to jack up their post count.

I haven't been here long. but in the short time I have I've become a huge busse fan. Unfortunatly I'm a starving student, and don't have anything resembling the cash for a Busse blade. so these givaways, and raffles are nice.

The same week I started posting was when the rep point system melted down. if you put a limit on the # of posts needed to participate, the result will be no different.

Slim, There is nothing wrong with a starving student trying to snag his first Busse, regardless of the number of posts he has. Keep trying man, you'll get one. :D

Now that I am thinking of it, I too am a starving student and I think Jerry should give us both a free knife. :D

What do you say Jerry?

I might be one of those people. I REALLY want to get a Busse (or 20 of 'em) some day, but just can't afford it now. I haven't posted more than one or two threads in this forum simply because I don't have much to contribute yet, being INFI-less as I am. I do, however, lurk around a bit and try to take in all the Busse goodness that I can. Winning a free knife is the closest I'm going to get to owning a Busse in the near term, so I give it a shot. :D

I didn't feel the comment was addressed at me, so no offense taken there.

I'm saying that if a guy is good at coming up with cool names, does it really matter if he doesn't do anything else? Admittedly, we'll never get to see photos or hear his review of the knife... but I wouldn't feel that it's a shame that he won it instead of someone more active in this community.

I don't care how many flippin posts you have... 1 or 10,000! Post on baby Post on.... I think it falls into the freedom of speech thing.

Besides, and I'm just guessing, but I think Jerry would have something totally different to say as to who gets a chance at a free Busse and who doesn't. I'm thinking Mr. Busse would be cheering on the little guy!

It's always cool to have others join in on the naming contest. Each idea from individuals may and does give ideas to others and it's just a good ole time :D

there are other forums here??? :o

I gotta get out more!!!! :o
