Hello, I just purchased two Benchmade knives on eBay. One is the CruWear Adamas and the other is the M4 Freek. I’m going to keep the one I like better. The Freek comes with a box, but the Adamas does not. If I like the Freek better, I think I’ll have an easier time selling the Adamas with a box. I called Benchmade and they said they don’t sell boxes any more because people were putting fakes in them. Does anyone know where I can find an Adamas 275GY-1 box?

Honestly, your best bet is either to hope someone who owns one will volunteer to sell/give you theirs, or else sell the Adamas and then buy one new from a supporting dealer. 🤷

Is this a good place to find someone who would want to give/sell theirs to me?

Candid answer? Probably not, but hey, stranger things have happened. It might benefit you to stick around and contribute/participate to this forum for awhile, then see where you're at.

Alright, thanks man. While I was researching knife steels this site kept showing up on the list, and I’ve read lots of opinions on here over the last six months.

Somewhat off original topic, but do you know if it is ridiculous to think I can take the M4 camping in humid, salty Florida and keep it rust free?

I have a Freek in M4 that I carry here in Florida occasionally, and have never had an issue. Though, that's likely due to the coating of the blade. As with anything, M4 will start to oxidize if you let it get away from you, so I'd recommend giving it a wipedown after any use where the knife gets wet.

That’s how I treated the Yojimbo 2 I had in CruWear, though that’s not as prone to rust as M4 from what I understand. What I didn’t like was that after a few cardboard boxes, the edge would no longer slice paper. Do you have experience with CruWear as well? If so, would you say M4 holds a better edge assuming the heat treatment was done properly on both blades?

M4 is supposed to have slightly better edge retention than Cruwear. Check out Knife Steel Nerds for info like that.

I doubt you'll get any extra money for the Adamas if it had the box with it. It's not like the knife has much collectors value.

I'd keep the Freak over the Adamas...Google Adamas lock failure and you'll see why.

I've found that Cruwear behaves more like an old school carbon steel when ground to the edges you find on folders. That is to say that mine have tended to roll a bit on the edge after abusive cutting. Not much, but just enough to lay over and make the edge feel not so sharp. This is usually on the factory edges. When I resharpen and finish up with a strop, I get a really nice edge that may not pop hair but it will be plenty tough for work.

I think a lot of this has to do with how hard it is. At 60-65 Rockwell, it can be a bit tougher to sharpen to a polish by hand but Cruwear seems to sharpen more easily to a workable edge that is tough and easy to touch up on a strop.

It's currently my favorite steel.

Not this again.

Cruwear is a tad tougher in my use experience, though M4 seems to hold an edge a little longer. Also, pay no mind to the other guy. The Adamas lock failure issue happened to a really small number of people, whereas the majority of us who own and use our Adamas' have been completely pleased with them. They're fantastic knives.

Thanks. I was getting a little worked up. I don’t have a ton of money to be throwing around, and I know I’m going to lose a little reselling one of the two.

I will say this. In my entirely unasked for opinion, I would choose the Adamas over the Freek to keep. For one thing, the Adamas is a more neutral handle design, which fits great in pretty much every way of gripping it, whereas the Freek is a tad more slim and it has one of those handle shapes that really makes it feel like it will squirt out of your grip if it got wet. I have size XL (or XXL depending on the glove company) hands, so that probably factors into it. Just a thought I had.

For daily carry, I like the freek with a deep carry clip better, less handle sticking out of the pocket and as mentioned, a little slimmer too. I used both extensivly, the pure cutting performance on the freek is better because of blade profile, Adamas is just a tank of a knife leaning itself more to heavy duty tasks. I wouldn't sell and of the two. No corrosion on any of them.

Fwiw, my Adamas has solid lockup and withstands spinewhacks no problem.

Apparently my second post should be which one I kept and why. On paper, they’re equally awesome in different ways. It’ll probably just come down to which one feels better in my hand.

As a registered member you cannot sell on this site, nor can you discuss the intention to sell while on this site. You must have a gold membership or higher to do either.

You've mentioned it a couple of times already and now it's time for you to desist until such time as you decide to change your membership level. (There is no obligation to do so if you are not interested in the benefits which come with paid membership.)

I still think you will keep 'em both. I could get rid off a lot of knives in my collection, but these two are unique enough to never sell them. I think the are lifetime users. Even if someday an omega spring breaks, it is not that hard to replace and cheap enough. Other than that, they will hold up forever.

My apologies. I don’t plan to try and sell either one or advertise through this site, but I will make sure not to mention that again.

Call Benchmade and ask if they have one or know how to find one. Ask your local dealers and check auction sites on a regular basis. Their out there you just have keep looking.

I can’t be the only person that has lost a knife and still has the box! Good luck!
