Hello, I'm curious where I could find a quality short sword (preferably a Xiphos or Gladus) for actual use. Or if there are people who would forge one for a reasonable price.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I like the Zombie Tools version of the xiphos. It's very nicely built.

I really like my Legacy Arms Pompeii gladius. It is tough, sharp and a real user/cutter. It is, however, a couple of inches longer than typical.

A BF member who goes by Archer Here makes a variety of classical designs, xiphos and lakonian included. I don't know how far "reasonable" stretches, but his prices are nice enough. Judging by the weights, he makes beefy pieces that are meant to whack things. They look good, but fit and finish seem aimed at a user so you aren't paying for a lot of delicate details that won't survive some chopping. If I can ever restrain myself long for the knife budget to stretch to the mid 200s, I am going to get one of his pieces. Look up his profile, and it will link to his website.

I would suggest the tfw celtic dress sword, i own it and love it. There is a video of the owner chopping a huge limb clean through with it. They also make a gladius but in my opinion i like the celtic style better but its personal preference

Like most things, it depends on your budget...

From cheapest to most expensive:

The Legacy Arms gladius - An ok blade but known to have QC problems.
Zombie Tools Xiphos - Overbuilt and lacking any distal taper, but tough as hell. They will also work with you if you want customization.
Valiant Armoury Leaf Blade - More refined and certainly better craftsmanship, but it comes at a price.
Atrim Leaf Blade - Probably the best handling short sword you can buy, but it's price point removes most customers.

For a forged or stock removal custom blade, most US makers will be around $1k (I just priced one out).

Looks great too.

I've been tempted to get that for sometime.

I was tempted myself, and then got an excellent offer. It's a smidge heavy, but the craftsmanship is top quality.

Paul Long built me a scabbard for it, and I'll never get tired of it......fun, sharp, pointy and about as much sword as anyone would need in an urban environment, and most rural areas as well.

Best Regards,
