First one since Christmas.
Showed it to a couple of people at work today, the first one I showed it to said she'd take it!
I don't get to finish many, so I get stoked when one actually sells. Sorry to spaz.

YoudamanYoudamanYoudaman Good job on the knife. Now take your wife out to celebrate. Bruce

Thanks for the compliments, guys. The scan is pretty crappy, it looks a lot beter in person.
Stats are: D2, ground from a planer blade, flat ground with green tiger maple scales and hidden pins. I mixed some fine sawdust from the maple into the epoxy to make it less visible. Balances right on the finger groove.
This was the same planer blade that I forged the other half of into a trailing point skinner a while back. This one seems to be a LOT more stain resistant. Anyone know why that would happen?
Richard: Profit? I'm currently begging my wife for $75(of the $100) for a portable rockwell tester. Of course, that D2 probably ate $40 in belts... Good thing I'm not all that good at math.

Oz, congratulations! That's a fine looking knife, too, lucky buyer. When you say "hidden pins", what's that mean and how'd you do it?

I don't get to finish that many knives either, but I don't want to let em go!

Outstanding Oz!!! That is an interesting pattern and looks like a beautiful finish on the blade and scales!

Take care!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Yes yes, congratulations!

Did you color the maple? or did you have it stabilized/dyed?

Nice lines, easy flow throughout. Keep it up

Great-looking knife! Congrats on the sale.

"Hidden pins" are where you make holes in the tang with corresponding partial holes in the scales (do not drill all the way through the material, but rather just slightly into the material). Then you fill them with epoxy, and also fill the tang holes. When it all dries, you essentially are left with epoxy pins that are "hidden" because they don't go all the way through the scales. I suppose you could do the same with actual pin material, too, if you do some careful measuring and drilling.

Congrats!!!!
Really nice looking knife and I am curious too. How did you get the scales that color, or is it just the scan?

Just as chiro said with the hidden pins, except that I used stainless steel. Just to be sure, I also drilled several shallow holes in the scales to fill with epoxy. I don't like to chance the handle coming off.
The maple came dyed and stabilized. I bought several blocks from assorted dealers at last years Blade show, and I'm finally getting to put some of what I bought to use.
As for the Rockwell tester, I have some questions about it myself, so I'll post it in a new topic so you can see what I'm talking about.

Fantastic looking knife. I have just started making knives and was wondering, should any of mine turn out good enough, what is a reasonable price to ask. I know that that is like asking for the length of a piece of string, but what guides do people use? Should I just look to cover materials or should I figure some time in as well?

What do other people do?
