I dont know if anyone has seen the new Tactical Knife Mag yet, but I am sure that most of you have. I saw the Microtech MTX and you know, I just got to have one. I did go to the website and noticed that all automatic knives are only allowed to be bought by police or military. I was wondering since I am active reserve and currently in Iraq, would I be able to get one? It is a very nice knife, I will admit; but also paying around 500 bucks for a folder is almost out of my league? What should I do?

If you are serving in Iraq I doubt you will have any trouble getting a dealer to sell you one!

Steven,

Thank you for getting in touch with me. That is what I figured as well, but I am over here as a contractor not a soldier. I was even looking at maybe buying an Mercworx folder instead (to save about 50 bucks), but, I did a search on this website for mercworx and oh my God! I cant believe the stories I was reading. I have the Equatorian and love it, but I will not buy any of their folders now after reading all the horror stories just now!!!!! Guess I am going to have to stay with the MicroTech MTX.

I don't know what you read, but my only experience with a Mercworx (a fixed blade however) was a good one.

As for the fixed blades they are awesome!! But I read a lot about the mercworx folders on how they are not made the same as they were when they first came out. Also there were complaints that the knives were not sharpened to shaving sharpness out of the box. Also I read htat MW customer service is not up to par.

The best thing to do is to contact Microtech and find out what their policy is. They may require documentation from your commander giving you permission to carry an auto.

"officially" they probably are only allowed to be sold to active LEO's and soldiers, or it could be a marketing-strategy by MT, but in reality it's well known that ANYbody can buy an MT auto at just about ANY (online-)store there is.

in short, everybody can buy an MT auto.

flbache, as bad as things are in Iraq, you contractors need anything you can get. I'm sure you can get one. In fact if you can't get a Microtech, I'll give you one of my knives (all manual). You guys deserve our support over there whatever our politics.

actually i asked my father in law who is a detective in VA. He told me that he checked around and found out that any type of automatic is illegal to own in VA. What VA considers an auto is type of blade that uses a spring to assist in opening, which the MTX2 DA uses. So, I am going to have to buy the manual instead which is fine because I like the style and i have heard a lot of good things about microtech anyway. If anyone has anything not good to say about microtech knives let me know.

if ya dont have the proper paperwork they (microtech, or protec/etc) will not ship the knife to ya, if you buy on the net and have probs and send it to MT for repair they wont ship it back to ya, its against fed law to ship switchblades across state lines without proper documentation, its not a "marketing strategy" ..............

that said if ya want one and are willing to risk warranty probs/etc ya can get one ......

listen up man! i think being in Iraq offers you a different perspective on life than any man here enjoying his freedoms abundantly as a soldier or whatever.

get ahold of Bob at www.thebrightedge.com and he will take care of you

tell him LaBella sent you. we will get you the auto MT at a fair price. I dunno why youre stressing, maybe when you get home?

LaBella is the Microtech Man!
I think Surefire too, Right LaBella?

Fibache, where excactly did you read the horror stories about the Merc-Worx folders?

I have the MW Atropos, (the largest folder they make) and it is a great knife. It was recommended to me by a few guys that also had nothing but great things to say about them.
Then there is the rumor on customer service.
Anyway, I would like to read others opinions about the MW Folders.

Microtechs, top shelf all around! Listen to LaBella, and get one, it will make you happy that you bought it.

wink wink, nudge nudge! Bob is a good friend and I told him you would be contacting him.. [ no worries ]

I love my Sure Fire M3 Combat light.... it can kick some butt in the dark..lmao!

Chameleon,

I actually read the horror stories about MW folders on this website. I looked up Mercworx. I have their fixed blade, the Equatorian, and love it as did everyone else that I read in the search I did. No problems with any of the fixed blades, just the folders and the more recent ones at that. When the folders first came out I read that they were first rate, since MW has outsourced their folders to other makers the quality and QA went down. Now all the bad things I heard were regarding the folders only. I read nothing but good things about their fixed blades. I am going to follow Labella's advice and get a microtech. I might wait until I get my job set up when I get back to the US. I have to wait for my clearance and stuff to switch over.

Thanks for the info on the Merc-Worx,as I will look it up now.

Let LaBella help you, and get a Microtech. If you can only buy one knife, make it a Microtech.
If you do not want an auto because you are afraid of the law in your home state, you can get a manual Microtech as well.
