Issue with screwdrivers on LM core being too soft

I've seen references to this issue in several other core threads in on these forums, but never along with any detail. Does anyone know if LM has addressed this problem, or how much of a problem it is? I just tweaked the flat tip on my core with a job that the flat tip on my kick would have had no problem with. I'm a mechanic and I have never bent any kind of screw driver, including the cheap bargain ones you can buy at hardware stores. How is this still a problem with what is wrongfully considered to be the toughest multi tool by many people?

I'm not sure if I'm helping you out here or not, but I have broken the tip on the small regular screwdriver twice. The first time it broke 1/16" from the tip so I just ground it square. Today, it broke again but the break goes upwards 1/8" at an angle. I'll try to fix it tomorrow:(

What were you working on when your driver tip bent? I ask only because excepting a few emergency or expedient fixes, I never did mechanical work with anything but dedicated tools. For me, multi-tools are okay for better than nothing when a proper tool kit is not available. Also, I don't treat them the same. Often as not, my multi-tool screwdrivers are used to pry or dig on something, and I expect sooner or later they will show signs of abuse. Is that the sort of thing that bent your tool, or was it actual screwdriving?

So far, for both intended and other uses, my relatively new Core is holding up well, but only time (and torque) will tell.

I was trying to adjust the lock on my cold steel AK-47. I would never use the screw drivers on my multi tools as a pry bar. The only thing I ever pry with is the pliers. I do realize that may have been slightly too stressful, but in a $60 leatherman I really dont think you should expect the flat tips to bend. And I dont understand how the screw drivers on my fuse lasted so long in comparison to the core. I have heavily abused my fuse, intentionally and accidentally. The only sign of wear it really shows is the pliers being a bit loose.

Sometimes, like with paint lids and other narrow gaps, the large flathead screwdriver fits best. In ten years, my Super Tool got used lots that way. During that time it picked up only minor dings, not enough to upset the precise fit that is one of the better things about Leatherman drivers compared to others.

Although I have had great service from earlier model Leatherman products, it remains to be seen how the newer versions hold up. I like the way they handle, though, especially the Core. It's like they took the basic Super Tool idea and refined at last it to a user friendly form.
