The rural route carrier showed up today with a wondrous knife...the "one-knife" for me, I think.

I'm a meat hunter. As much as I love various blades I have, and have seen, I don't "collect" knives. Sometimes, just the small variety I have annoys me because I have to rotate them to feel justified in having so many.

I think those days are done. Fiddleback Forge, Andy Roy's hangout, took a crude design I'd done years ago, which had subsequently become a 200-ish run of HI knives...and has created, or re-created a classic Practical Hunting knife.

I just love the handle (hugely important to me), the execution of the blade shape with its various bevels for not just field dressing a whitetail, but processing it, as well, and the synthesis of artistry, history, function and substance it incorporates.

The original had a cut-off spoon handle as a finger-guard. Fiddleback (at least this one) has a wrought iron bolster, substantially protecting the hand as it grips the walnut slabs on the serious full tang blade. The blade is astonishingly sharp, and the false edge is perfect for separating the legs and joints for quartering and processing.

Right now, it is going to go with me in the home-made SARGE sheath, where, for all its beauty, it fits quite naturally.

It was made to work.

Looks very nice, can't wait to read your duty reports after using it :D

As for the one and not being a collector and all, well 6,125 posts on BF tell me otherwise ;) I've heard 'this is the one', even said it myself a couple of times. We'll see. Remember the first step in embracing the problem is admitting you have one :D

man.. that thing came out great... Andy did a nice job on that one for sure..

Man, thanks Kismet. I hope it serves you well. I know that one dress deer this year. Please post pics!!

Looks like an awesome skinner and all-around great game knife!

Beautiful and well desidned, What is the blade length?

Kismet designed a great knife, and should get the credit. I've owned two of the HI Version for a few years now, and have always liked the utility of the knives. I re-handled both of mine when I got them, and this one looks nothing like those. I wanted to stay true to the original. It was a real honor to have that original in my hands too. I'm blessed.

That looks great but has it been posted before, I seem to recall something like that a while back ?

pit?

This is the second knife Andy made. There was a thread in HI, and his first production report and images when he finished this...the wrought iron bolster was one of the main topic elements, I think.

This just arrived today and I had to show it off. It has already been with me and my fractured shoulderblade, Young Bert, the not-right dog, and his torn cruciate ligament, and a wood-duck we invited home, for a walk with a shotgun along the crik below the house.

It is truly a marvelous rendition of a classic woodman's design.

Turns out the hydrocodone w/ tylenol I got for the shoulder and ribs should NOT be used for canines. I thought it would be ok for YB. I HATE to condemn him to staying at home. He's my company/hunting buddy these days. He's better at what he does than I am at what I do. :)

I'll add pictures later.

I must be thinking of the first one then, I can remember commenting on how good it looked when he posted it on his forum !!!
