Imagine my hearty enthusiasm when I pulled in this evening and the big boxes were sitting in the drive... (Jim at TKS told me not to expect It until mid-Feb.)

Last week I took the plunge and ordered the B3 -- decked out with 1.5 hp variable speed, 10" wheel, platen, rests, the works. (=debt, though: ugh)

Man oh man. Here it is. In our kitchen. Counters full of parts. Finished building its bench just last night.

All I have to do now is figure out how to hook it up to the 220. Well, that's after I get it downstairs.

Oh boy, oh boy!

Even though I am rapidly rethinking how I want to make knives (I've found that I like doing as much by hand as possible) I am deeply envious of your BIII. I get to use a friends varable speed Wiltons and they are NICE. Enjoy your new machine! Another friend of mine highly recomends the zirc grinding belts by the way. I just got a 12" second cut and a 12" smooth cut file that I can't wait to try. I'm hoping the smooth cut will cut down on my finishing time. -Guy Thomas

A decked out BIII is definitely the envy of all of us newbies. That is awsome that you got it so much sooner than expected. That doesn't happen very often. Let us know how you like it once you get it set up and have a chance to try it out. With a new toy like that, I wouldn't sleep all weekend.

Outstanding Dave!!! You'll never be the same now!

Take care!! Michael

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

If you don't mind me asking who did you get the BIII through and what did you pay for that entire package (10" wheel, attachments, etc.)?

Getting something (BII, Hardcore?)in about two months and would like to compare the prices I've seen. You can e-mail me off line if you don't want to post the price.

Many mahalos!

Hoss, I bought this through Texas Knifemaker's Supply. I talked to the owner Jim Lemcke a couple of times before I finalized my order, and what I got was based mostly on what I'd read here and on his recommendations.

As an aside, I've been dealing with TKS for about 12 years (Jim bought it 3 years ago) and have had nothing but pleasure from the association. They're friendly, knowledgeable and really work hard to get what you want.

In addition to the variations I mentioned earlier, I had them install a 2" rubber contact wheel on the platen so I have that smaller radius to grind on, and I ordered a 5/8" wheel on the fork arm that comes with the grinder. Surprisingly to me the tool rests are a boon. I hadn't expected that.

Okay, so as far as price, the total including shipping came in at a little over $1900. This is what they meant in previous thread when they referred to "sticker shock". I still haven't gotten over it, but I know I did the right thing.

And now, as Mr Wilkins said, I have no further excuse to hang in the sidelines...

I'm truly psyched.

Thanks for all the well wishing, gents. I'll get some knives made and see what you think.
