It Couldn't Be More Perfect

When John asked me if I had ever done a review of an Esquire, or if I could do one had I not, it had been so long since I had gotten rid of my favorite Esquire I had forgotten why I had never done the review I had starting taking images for years ago.

To be honest, the thing was that too many of the images were attached to someone I didn't want to think about for the last several years. Someone of whom I didn't want to be reminded of our parting of ways. And there were too many picnics and dinners out where she used the knife to prepare and portion our food. Scenes from several of of those dates made it into articles I wrote for the blog. Including her favorite Calzone from Mellow Mushroom.

So to be honest, it was with a slight sense of dread that I first approached doing the review on the Osage Esquire, the only one I had enough images o to be worthy of an in-use review. But then it turned out to be a good thing John requested the review, because in looking through all the images I was able to recognize that I had at some point healed from all that, and they don't hurt to look at anymore.

So when I opened the box John, jmgruber jmgruber sent me, there was just lots of excitement, as I turned the new Osage Esquire over and over in my hands. Taking notice of all the subtle changes Andy had made in the process of refining the design in the years since I had gotten my first one. The more refined plungeline on the thinner stock, which is actually perfect for this modle. Then the more refined handle contours. Especially the more refine pommel end.

And then I found out that the sheath Justen made for me years ago, with both the constellation and glyph of my zodiac, fits it perfectly and I started carrying it immediately.

I wandered around with the knife for a couple of days, trying to find something special for the first use, but in typical fashion for me, the first use was just something more real and more me. Cutting open a pack of Hot Hands while I was out shooting images in the fog and rain on a cold night on the river,

But then a couple of hours later, I was at Mellow Mushroom catching up with my dear friend Jesse, and getting dimensions for a photo I'm gifting her for a housewarming gift. Because she and her husband got married at one of my favorite waterfalls, which I have a few cool images of. This one being the one I titled "The Heart Shaped Pool", and now she also wants me to write out the poem I wrote that day inspired by Tolkien through Faramir at the Forbidden Pool at Henneth Anun, That "merely to gaze upon the heart shaped pool bears the penalty of love" to go with it.

And while I was there, I had Jesee put an order in for my favorite Calzone, which I ate while editing images for a post card order I'm placing. One of which is still my favorite image of our local carousel, taken by the woman whose hands are in the first images, several years ago. And drank a toast to healing. I'm very thankful I have healed of the damges I was struggling with when we met, and when we parted, I pray she some day heals of her damages as well.

I like having a more refined Esquire, for a more refined version of me.
