Well, I finally done it.
I had my 18"AK out for cleaning and to try and make the scabbard where it wasn't so tacky. The B-L did that just fine, dissolving the remnants of the olive oil I once thought was so good.

What didn't take much though was the green Scotch Brite on the horn handle. Before I started I could twist the smooth, slick horn handle in my hand by turning the blade. No longer!!
I used the green as I believe it is the coarsest and just a bit of work going longwise on the handle made all the slick go away. It doesn't look as bad as I thought it might either.
Looks good on a workin khukuri.

And I know it won't slip in my hand when it's being worked from now on.

And I thought all my knives were as sharp as I could make them and they were with what I had.
I bought a bar of Green Chrome buffing compound at the G & K Show and finally got around to chargeing a strop that's going to a bud. I cannot Believe the difference in all my sharp knives!! Now they are sharper than they Have Ever Been!!!
And as Uncle Bill can testify.... they were Sharp before!!

Not to be butting into your personal life, Yvsa, but this "news" that's going to be crimping your spending sounds mighty suspicious. You're not getting ready to be a daddy again, are you?!

DAYUM STEVEN!!!!!!!

Well, for one thing that's been impossible since 1959 and with 19 grandkids I don't even want any more of them.

Now g'grandkds would be a different story and that may happen sooner than I even think knowing my newly wedded oldest g'son.(vbeseg)

No, the story is, now that I have told some others, is that Barb came home yesterday with the news that the company she works for is moving its "specials dept" to Cedar Rapids Iowa and many people's job's are now gone. The really bad part is that
the company wants to know Monday what everyone's decision is as this will be done on Nov 10th.

Barb is taking the severance package and we will now be together 24-7 which is what we have been working for for a very long time.
I not only have a very good wife, but also the best friend I have ever had.

I'm sorry she's losing her job but it sounds like it will work out for you anyway. Sounds like you have a great thing going.

I would be very interested in hearing the step by step process you use to get such a sharp edge. I do pretty well with my Spyderco ceramic sticks but there's always room for improvement! I can adaquately sharpen all of my khuks except my 20" Gelbu Special. No matter what I do I cannot bring out the razor on that one. The steel feels particularly hard on this one. It "sings" when I draw the sticks over it.

You're a lucky man, Yvsa, to be married to your best friend. However, you'd better be careful -- with Barb being around the house so much she just might find out how many of those curvy knifes you have and put a stop to getting any more!
