Ever read a knife's stats they say some thing like,"Blade 3 inches, handle 4 inches, over all length 7 1/4" ??? Whats uo with that? I know sometimes with knives like Gerbers Bolt action, when you close it the back of the blade sticks up past the handles,so you could get two differant measurements open or closed.

Its not just that they don't always add up right other times there just off from a true measurent. My CQC7 for example, the catalog says 8 inches over all.Well my little machinist rule reads 7 7/8,I know its only an 1/8 but still. The blade is 1/32 short of 3 1/4 yet the catalog says 3.3 inches do they always just round up?

Hey maybe women are doing the measurements,my wife says she's still the same size as when we married.:D

A blade is measured by its cutting surface not by the amount of metal overall. So a knife with a 3" blade and a 4" handle can measure 7.250" OAL. The ricasso is normally not measured as part of the blade.

As for the other, I think that they are rounding up just to make things simple.

The problem is that there is no aggreed upon method of measuring the blade. Sometimes it's the length of the cutting edge, other times it's tip to handle, sometimes in a folder it's even tip to tang, wich can make things real confusing but this is rare.
