Well I was able to pickup my latest addition from the post office today, that darn lazy postman wouldn't get out of his truck on Saturday to deliver it, and I was watching for him, he slid by real quick. A very nice BAS by the renowned Mr Durba is now in my hot little hands. One of Uncles UBDOTD's. I just happened to log on at the right time linked with a couple of hesatations by forumites and she was mine. I was knocking everything off my desk trying to close my internet connection and get to the phone so I could call Uncle. My first impression is "I LIKE IT". Very good size to weight ratio. I like the light curve to the spine. To me it should be a very capable chopper adequate forward weight but she is still suprisingly quick. Not, what I consider, to long, comfortable to carry. The size and shape of the handle affords a great grip, very comfortable, its smaller than my 18" WW II and beefier than my 18" Gelbu. I recently read a posting by a forumite who said that their BAS is carried with them everywhere, now I see why. She has a few sharp edges on the handle, a little rust on the tip and the sheath needs a little TLC, but that's why it was a UBDOTD. All of which I can clean up in short order and have a 10/10 by DURBA. Thanks Uncle another satisfied customer.

Congrats, Black Bear.

The BAS was my first khukuri. I think the BAS is the "jack of all trades" of khukuris. I carry mine daily in my gov't vehicle for emergencies which may arise on the highway or entering a building or what have you. It's large enough for serious business, and small enough to not be a PITA to have along side the seat.

It's my only khukuri whose maker is unknown to me. Somehow, with this, my first, I actually prefer it that way. It's an HI khukuri and I have complete confidence in its ability to serve. I think it speaks volumes as to why it is the size issued to the regiments.
