I know, i am going to be a huge disappointment to folks. I came home for lunch and guess what was waiting for me, my new GEC 85 with clip point. Initial assessment is its just about perfect. No blade play, no gaps, no wobble. The ebony is just about gorgeous...although it has half stops and that may take a tad bit of adjustment, they are good. The pull is good, just a HAIR tighter than the texas jack, almost not worth mentioning. Pull is probably a 6 in my opinion. The blade is a little duller than the case texas jack, but seeing as its 1095 i pretty sure that wont be too much to fix.

All in all, i am EXTREMELY pleased, happy and appreciative to Elliot for this.
Seeing as I am at lunch, I probably wont get a chance to take any pics till after work, and it will be dark out so it will have to be inside pics. But i'll get some up asap.

Thank you again Elliot
I love this place :D

You made a fine choice and were shown great generosity.

85 is a fine pattern to own and use.

Regards, Will

Great choice, I have been very tempted to pick up one of those clip 85s in ebony as well, but since I just picked up a couple 66 jacks in ebony I better hold off for now. I am anxious to see your pics

i got done eating faster than i thought
i got some 3-4 pics in the sunlight, they are uploading onto photobucket now
hope to get at least a couple resized and posted before going back to work (i got like 12 minutes till i gotta run back)

some preliminary pics...sorta on a short time frame here :p

Ryan, thanks for posting up images of your new baby. Looks like a great choice and right up your alley.

I'm very pleased to have been able to do this and I hope you carry it in the best of health and happiness.

Nice going Elliott Claus!! (Santa's long lost brother, right?:D)

Good choice Ryan! Indeed, may good health accompany your fine gift!

I know, i am going to be a huge disappointment to folks.

Thanks for posting the pictures with your Texas Jack; that's a helpful size comparison to see.

Congratulations again on the win, and for choosing such a fine knife. There's nothing quite like ebony in-hand.

Thanks again, Blues. :)

Ah, okay. Thanks for the explanation!

Thanks for going the extra mile to put up pictures sooner than later. As I said, I especially appreciate now having comparison shots with a Texas Jack.

I look forward to seeing these two age together. :)

Congrats on a beautiful knife. I hope mine's that nice !! It's on it's way now, so it should be here soon.

yeah i was surprised and pleased with how similiar in size they are (the gec is just a smidge longer, about 1/8" i figure)
the gec is actually lighter but because of the shape, feels bigger in the hand.

i am loving the ebony scales, smooth and gorgeous. its actually hard to describe, but i figure you folks with ebony handles know what i am talking about. Also I prefer the full clip over the slender clip the case has. Although the clip DOES stick up alot more in the closed position than the texas jack. Something to get used to.

something else that may be of interest. the texas jack has the clip in the front and the pen in the back (with the nail nick on the opposite side) while the 85 has the pen in front and the clip with nail nicks on the same side

Ryan,
thanks for showing us what you picked (and thanks again to Elliott and Mike for their giveaway). It's always nice to see the second half of any giveaway :)
As for the knife...it does look great to me. My love for ebony has been expressed enough around here, and I do like the handle shape, and the fact that both nicks are on the same side.
Glad to hear you're happy! :)
