Got a nice double delivery today, some redwood slabs and a Becker BK14. Let the mods begin! I couldn't find any pics of what I had in mind so I just jumped in.

First up removing the guard bump by the blade ( still need to round it a bit more, but that's for tomorrow

More to come as I finish and handle it so my bk7 has a companion

Done!

Awesome, I've been meaning to do that to my BK-14 for some time now, the only thing that's holding me back is the fact that I would have to make a new sheath for it :D

You CAN do handle scales that will fit the stock sheath, ya know. Just gotta taper the scales down to a thin edge at the top.

man that thing looks really different with that grind job. nice blanks!

Is wood more difficult to work than micarta? I'm no woodworker, but I love the idea! Can't wait... m.

It depends on the wood and how hard it is. A fairly hard wood (bloodwood for instance), can be pretty hard to work with. For me, cocobolo and micarta are fairly comparable, although you have slightly different issues with each. Just remember to wear a respirator and safety goggles. The dust from either can really irritate your eyes, or if you inhale them, you can end up with some pretty serious issues (lung cancer, for instance).

Getting there, sanded to 400 and soaked with tung,

Still going to fill voids, go back to 220 up to 1000 or 1500, more tung, a final sand up to grey mesh then polyurethane

Gorgeous woodwork. people 'round here seem to have as good of taste when it comes to woodwork as they do with steel :)

Wow that looks fantastic.

How much did the redwood cost if you don't mind my asking?

Not at all, the block was $36 I got it from Burl Source ( they are a supporting dealer here) And they cut it into 1/2 thick slabs.
