Apologies...couldn't find the sub-list this belongs in ...

A co-worker brought this in this a.m. ...it was frozen solid. I was able to
get it operational . I was wondering if anyone here would know anything
about this tool... manufact. ?, era ? . It has a vaguely familiar remnant
of a blue-gray paint in various areas. Unfortunately, there are no imprinted
logos or identifiers visible. Any information gratefully accepted.

I had never seen this before..but a quick check of ebay lists one for sale
at $100... (asking, no bidders). My co-worker has plans to display it on
his "tool wall". Thank you.

when I was growing up Dad called these type tools "contraptions". :)

Mr. Tall. Outstanding. Thank you for sharing the Patent listing. Very much appreciated.
I will see what I can learn about Mr. P.E. Markham. (I enjoy the back story). Amazing
that you were able to track so fast. Humbly appreciate your research skills.

btw...
very stubborn to unlock.... wd 40, 3-in-1 oil soak, silicone spray, and white
lithium grease. The handles are brittle so avoiding torque was essential. A
strategically placed (metal-on-metal) breaker bar gently broke loose the bonds
of time. Still, a significant upper body work-out is required to make these fly
thru the hedge work.

...a bygone eras tool.

Awesome, looks functionally very similar to my facial hair trimmer.

Same goes for sickle bar mowers. And scythes are sort of like the straight razors of vegetation management. I'd like to get shirts made some day that say "Shave the Planet" on them with a guy mowing the grass beard of an anthropomorphized caricature of the Earth. :p

I smell a hipster business opportunity... "lawn barber."

Yes, exactly what it reminds me of. Cool tool in any case. I wish I'd found it.

And for unsticking rusty frozen parts I've found no better commercially available product than Aerokroil. Beats the pants off WD-40 and even PB-Blaster. O home made mix of acetone and automatic transmission fluid is slightly better if you can find something to contain it. It soaked right thru my plastic spray bottle.

Aerokroil will creep shockingly far into frozen parts. Even works on rusty old exhaust bolts. The Fleet Services guys at work turned me on to it. Changed my world.

If I actually SEE a hipster with a scythe, I am now blaming you personally. It's not that I fear the Man Bun, it's that I don't really trust them to swing sharp objects.

Square Peg ...excellent rec. on the Aerokroil...I will see if I can track any down
locally. I was so worried about damaging/ruining the brittle handles that I overdid
it on the "go-slow" and "tincture of time" application. Just very thankful I did not
snap a handle....as these are not my tool. It sounds like Aerokroil would have
made the job easier. Thank you.
