YAH BABY!!!...after about 14 days of thinking and 3 days of on/of work my surfacegrinder is finished...can´t believe how well it works....holds a tolerance below 0.001" which is much better than I had expected..So far I have done a testrun on a piece of unhardened steel, 2 hardened folderblades AND...I found a way to attach none magnetic materials to the chuck so I made a backspacer for the folder I was doing in G10 in nothing flat.....something I used a LONG time on before and something I had to work hard to get precise.....now......piece of cake.....man I love this thing ...heck even the "dust-removal-system" I made for it works great....catches 99% of the airborn particles...

That one looks like it still needs swome refinement. I will come pick it up within the hour.

Very nice work. What did the base equipment come from?

Whatcha got, one of those new NASA 10x's the speed of sound jets or Santa's sleigh? :D
That is a bad a$$ surface grinder I must say. I am jealous. :)

Fantastic Jens!!!!
Did you cast that thing yourself???
I'd love to build a surface grinder that uses belts!
You're amazing!!

this originated as somekind of horizontal mill/grinder......the horizontal axis had the large handle with one turn for the full travel of the table....so I really just modified it to fit the grinder around it.....and added the chuck.....but man what a difference to work on folders..!! Now I can never go back....but then again...thats how it is when you get new tools...same happend when i built me the horizontal grinder.....

Anso,

I am very impressed. My vision of a surface grinder has been that of a hard stone wheel. I don't think I ever would have thought of this. It looks super to me. I can see where it might work very well for our purposes. Thank you very much for sharing that innovative concept. That is a very nice looking machine you designed and contructed.

Very impressive. I enjoy making my own tools but that one just raised the bar!!!!!
It never ceases to amaze me what knifemakers can build to make their work even better than it already is.
Great work Anso.
