Yup! It's that magical day again. Out of deference to the highly-revered and honorable Burchie, I pick up the ball and ask all ye citizens of the realm what shall ye be doing this weekend?

Me? You ask what I'm doing? Okay, I'll tell you.

I get off (work... get off WORK... get your minds out of the gutter) about 3:30 and I have to bolt over to Milford to pick up a water testing kit. I just applied for a new home equity loan and we are approved pending water sample. Why I have no idea, but this is a different bank than our last home-eq loan.

Then I have to drop the hammer and get my butt back home to be there around when my sone comes home cuz he wants to buy a canoe and I got the truck.

Then I got to come home and maybe drink some beer (why? Because its THERE!). Oh yeah... working on a dagger! Should be pretty sweet. D-2 blade, snakewood handle. I'll post it soon.

Tomorrow: Welding lessons for a knifemaking buddy of mine.

Sunday: Paddle with the Missus and maybe a swim... if the weatehr gives me a break!

What're you guys doing this weekend?

woohoo -- now it's a tradition. I wasn't sure if you all liked the friday thing or not. (blatent rip-off of the W/C sendoff) :D

I'll be watching a minor-league opener tonight and tossing back some brews. The rest of the weekend is all shop business. Still got a fighter, campknife, some cord-wraps (no surprise :D ) to finish.

some quiet time with the boys is all I have scheduled....oh, and maybe some free time for mama....she's earned it. ;)

Ahh cool, Mike. Glad to see you aren't upset about me hijacking your thread. I pass the cloak and the scepter back to you!

Dan: Giving yourself some time with the kids and letting The Momma have some free time! Boy, I miss those days... NOT! MUAHAHHAAHAA! Seriously, you're good guy. I'll be spending some time with my son tonight and maybe getting in some fishing with him this weekend if he buys that canoe.

Did I mention I'll probably have a few beers?

Jeff they make you do the water test to make sure you live long enough to pay the payments.
don't tell them you drink beer... :D

also if you go to the doc more than once make sure to don't pay him up..
you'll live forever,he'll make sure of it.. :D

you sound like me
so much to do nothing ever gets done :(
this weekend? doing the stuff I don't have time for. :(

Well it's a long weekend for us Canucks, celebrating Queen Victoria's birthday. Hey I'll take a long weekend no matter what ya have to call it to make it happen!!!

My wife spent a ridiculous amount of money on some Alaskan King Crab legs which we will have for dinner tonight, along with the MANDATORY BEER!!! :D

Have to get a couple of carving knives and forks ground this weekend, get some fillet knives ready for heat treat, and would love to get a folder done to get heat treated also, we'll see???

Also I REALLY want to get out and do some fly fishing for grayling as they are running and won't be for long.

Have a good weekend everyone.

Was going to mow, finish splitting some firewood the last storm provided and ride my horse today. Got done with the tractor but it started raining before I got the trim work done mowing. Never touched the firewood an we've got a damn storm blowing in right now thats supposedly has 1/2" hail.
Will probably still get my horse rode tonight, but don't know about making it to the horseshow tommorrow due to the friggin rain, its all outdoors and the arena is in the bottom of a valley :grumpy:
Definitely get some time in the shop, and find as many ways as possible to put off doing homework :D

I'll probably go buy another lot of stuff from my new old friend Walter (he's old, but we're new friends) as he just called and said I must come visit. That always means he wants to sell me some more of his collection of tools and then give me a bunch more stuff. This time it will include boxes of reamers, center drills of all sizes, countersinks and a variety of other stuff. Then I'll list a few things on ebay and hopefully finish up a batch of 304 stainless brake linkage clevis pins I'm making up for a neighbor of mine.

Oh, yeah, then there will be the beer drinking sessions..:)

Good and safe weekend to you all!

John

I was gonna be a couch potato for a change of pace but all this talk about beer has got me headed for the shop. I'm out of gas for the forge but my shop has a pop machine full of beer. The down side is you have to put money in to get a beer, the up side is that it's only a nickel! A dollar goes a long way in my shop. Tuck

Dude: I am glad you are not swimming around here. Somebody may harpoon you, thinging that you are Moby Dick.

HA! My weekend starts on Fridays! I work a 4 day week, so 3 day weekends every week. Shop time and mowing is my bag this weekend. Shop is hot, but missus will kick my butt if she catches me sneaking the bedroom window AC into my shop. Any suggestions? No, I can't move the shop into the bedroom. I just got another $2 yardsale motor for my homemade rocksaw and plan on getting it assembled. What I smelled getting hot in my shop turned out to be the now deceased saw motor. Graveside services were not required. The motor joined some others on the motor bonepile. I am slowly replacing my open motors with enclosed ones.

Considering summer temps and the fact that I generally only get into the shop in the evenings after it's had all day to heat up, I thought it was worth the $169.00 for an 8000btu window A/C unit for the shop. Just sawed a hole in the wall and I was good to go. The effeciency of the newest units is such that the expected operating costs should only be about $50.00 per year, of course I don't have a forge in mine.

Got to take the five and three year old to Shrek 2 (GOOOD movie!!) otherwise there will be a minor revolt in the house..

(minor revolt... kids are minors... get it??? Ahhh I kill myself)

Then we clean out the car from last weekend's road trip. I am not looking forward to that.

What I am looking forward to is to start grinding a D2 fighter for my buddy in Iraq. I found Norzon belts for my currect 4x36" grinder in the new Western Tool Supply store in town. That should make the grinding alot easier than before. Thank God that Western Tool Supply took over once Woodworker's Warehouse bit the dust. WTS has a much better power tool selection along with a better selection of belts and hand tools.

Then I attempt to put together a homemade grinder that I've scavenged parts for over the last few months. The only part I paid for was the contact wheel... $14.00 at Walmart for a 14" garden cart tire that is almost 2" wide.

If the 14" garden tire doesn't run true enough (most probable) and you want a cheaper solution than a custom wheel from Rob Frink ($175.00) you might try a Grizzly replacement part for their knife grinder. I got a 8" or 10" balanced contact wheel from them for about $28.00. It's designed to fit on a .750 shaft and has no bearings so you need pillow blocks, but those can be had from Texas Knifemaker's Supply cheaply.

What say ye, Starbuck? :)

Well put it this way... I'm a dick, just not Moby Dick!

I'm going to be moving :barf: :barf: I'll also be going offline for awhile. Hopefully I will be able to catch up with you guys from time to time. Thanks for all the great info! Thanks also to IG and the NECKA gang, it was an awesome show. And now, back to your regularly scheduled programming :(

DAM it's still raining and there are flood watches for around here. Looks like it will rain for 3 to 4 more days and my 1500 Gold Wing has been sitting in the garage to long.
I think I will fire up the pick up, go get my Grandson and deliver about a hundred lb. order of butt plate, trigger guards and tomahawks to Track of the Wolf. The Grandson likes that place -- they have a candy bowl and he knows where it is.
I guess if I were some one else I could spend these rainy days watching TV but I don't like sports and the rest of the programing is designed around children or people that have a childs IQ.
There is a bright side to the week end though as my Son and his Wife are inviting some of their friends over for dinner and they always ask me to come over also. His friends are all computer wizards and it's amazing what an old man can learn just by watching these guys.
You all have a good week end.

mowed the lawn yesterday and finished grinding a knife for the little lady ;) hopefully get some lovin and some handles on her knife. I got my grinder Tuesday so maybe I'll set it up this weekend( maybe yea right ) go hunt the flea market for great knifemaking finds :D
Peace be safe and happy
Bob

Hope y'all have a good weekend
Dan
