I purchased my first Buck a 105 35 years ago. Foolishly I let it get away from me. It had the old flap sheath and I was a proud Buck owner. I have noticed though that the new ones have even a better finish on them then the ones made then. That is almost unheard of in today's day of diminishing quality.

Yep, Buck's quality is as strong as ever. Here is a list of Pathfinder changes since 1973:

1) Blade material has been changed from 440C to 420HC
2) Blade grind is a little different with sharper grind lines
3) Blades are marked with "year of manufacture" symbol
4) Handle has gone from two Micarta spacers at each end to one.
5) Flap sheath has been discontinued

Robert, That same things happened to me. I let my nephew borrow my 4dot 105, which he promptly abused and broke it.Buck so graciously replaced it but now I don't have a 4dot (1985)...
TAH, On your 1) 440C was used thru 1985. Then 425 steel thru 1993 and 420 there after. DM

David,
Are you confusing a 4 dot 110 or 112 with your 105? I ask this because the fixed blade knives did not use the 2, 3 or 4 dot stamping as was incorporated on the 110 and 112 knives.

No, Larry I had a 105 that had 4 dots under the stamping! Buck has it now but the dots were quite visible. I still kick myself for allowing him to borrow it.DM

David,
Please try to remember this at the 20 year event. Perhaps Joe will point it out to us if it is on display. This is one I would really like to see.
Thanks,
Larry

Rat, I apprised Joe of this. That the knife is in the factory somewhere, or was (El Cajon).
Maybe gone for good but if someone was looking back then they snaged it up! (1995).
Everything else was standard about it and I do have a witness about that knife who will be at the 20yr.Reunion. Darn, I wish I'd known then... DM
