Sal -
I was referring to the new policy where I have to subscribe for all variations of all models, or no variations of any models. I understand why the first series all have to be all one type, but the "all or nothing" policy on variations is really kind of harsh.
When I really like a particular SKU, I would prefer a plain edged model for carry, and with the old policy, I was able to order that plain edge. This is in addition to, not instead of, the initial combo or serrated, which would only very rarely have been my first choice (but this is how the club works, so these are what I gladly commit to). Now, if I want a plain edge, I have to go to a dealer and buy one with a non-matching number. There's just no way I'm signing on for all the variations of all models.
If I could, I would absolutely order a trainer to match my Gunting - a plain edge as well, because a combo edge on such a small blade, IMHO, is truly "worst of both worlds". But because of the policy, I will have to buy them "off the shelf", with a non-matching number - and don't get me wrong, I will buy them.
I genuinely enjoy the collectors' program. It's great being the first kid on the block for everything. But let's be honest - I make a commitment to buy EVERY SKU PRODUCED. When I signed on, don't you think that there were a few in that initial $1000 pile that I'd have been just slightly happy to have passed on? Do you have any idea what kind of hit I had to take to trade away a serrated JD Smith? But you required the purchases, and I made them. Doesn't this level of commitment make me a "top tier" customer worth a little extra effort, like making up an occasional plain edge (or in this case, Gunting Trainer) if I'd like to buy one - without trying to hook me for every variation on every knife?
