It justed wanted a belly rub and a head noogie

Who was that person at 4:42? I think maybe the same guy in the passenger seat yet I didn't see him get pasted on the trail and he somehow appeared behind the cameraman?

That happens, good thing it wasn't a big black bear!

I'm going to bet, given the location, that bear wasn't curious. I'd be willing to bet its been fed before, and habituated. Probably by some less than clever seismic lineys. But maybe by hikers or others. My read was it was expecting food. just following along wondering when it would get some treats. Not threatening or predatory. If it was that, they wouldn't have gotten away like they did. It probably got pushed more towards town trying to find its own range, but learned its bad habits farther out, closer to the mines. Thats my guess. Also the comments section is full of internet idiocy, I hope for the bears sake most of those people never meet one.

Those ears aren't saying anything aggressive. No aggressive behaviour either. After working a while in fort Mac I would put my money on he wants beer and cookies.

Habituated bear that had been fed before, no doubt.

he will get shot if not relocated
Probably too late. Too unafraid of humans to be turned loose elsewhere. I'm not familiar with Canada wildlife services, but if that bear was here in New Mexico it would be euthanized.

yeah no aggressive posturing - if it wanted them instead of treats the older guy would have been toast when they turn and ran, his buddy kind of left him in the dust there! Meanwhile bear is sadly thinking "why no treats?"

In general and especially in northern alberta, a fed bear is a dead bear. In BC where there is a higher population of environmentalists, the official line is that they are relocated, usually right over the border.... But at the moment with populations as strong as they are especially with black bears, they will probably put some traps out and see if they can pick up any bears, but that's pretty expensive. If a ranger spots a bear with similar behavior, they will probably just put it down. Its too big a risk, considering anywhere they put it, just means a hungry bear wandering around when work starts in the fall.

Thankfully telling people that feeding bears means that they will be put down, has really cut down on the people feeding them, really puts it home that its a bad idea.
