It looks like there will be one more BK16 in stock...

I just received my Becker BK16 from GPKnives...let's just say that I was more impressed with the way that GP packages knives than the knife itself. Just doesn't do it for me. I was really excited when I placed my order and then I started wondering why I actually liked the knife. Then I realized that it was because they weren't in stock and everyone wanted one. I'll be sending this one back :grumpy:

Agreed. I'm interested to hear why you don't like it. I was planning on picking on up sometime, and would love to hear your thoughts.

I handled the BK17 for a while (2 weeks), and found that while I liked it, I would have liked the FFG of the 16 better, so thats what I'm holding out for. But we would be interested in more details...

Love my FPR saber ground BK16, personally. Would be curious what you don't like about it.

Also, this thread needs some pron.

I used mine to prepare dinner: chicken cordon bleu, arugula salad.

Did a fine job at everything, and the handle design is very comfortable for my medium-size mitts. I hear it's not so comfortable for folks with large hands though.

guess we wont hear what he does not like about it, mine is on the way and I cant wait.

Man You guys! I can't step away for one second! LOL!

First off, I didn't think that I would mind the FFG...I did! The knife just looks and feels really small in my hand. The grips make it feel like I'm holding a heavy plastic toy. As you will see in the pics, the thickness of the handles is almost identical to the Mora Comapanion. The difference is that the Mora's grips have a very slight give to them. The BK16 is just too small and the scales are too rigid and "plasticky".

I was thinking of maybe trying my luck at a convex grind, but I'll probably ruin it because I've never tried it

I just gotine and can't wait to apply it to some cutting chores, I like big knives but this size is fine.

Yeah, I didn't like the looks of the FFG either, for some reason. Really prefer the saber ground, which is why I went for the FPR. As for the scales, perhaps you could make your own? I obviously did. Not because I didn't find the stock ones comfy, since they DO fit my hand, but because I prefer wood.

I'm thinking of giving it a go, but I still don't know if I'll return it. I'm pretty bummed because here in San Diego there are no quality knife stores so all my shopping has to be online and hit and miss. As of late...it's all been miss.

I wanted to get the Fallkniven F1, but that knife is smaller than the BK16 so that probably won't be a wise choice.

Anyone know if there will be micarta scales available for the BK16 like there is for the BK2 and BK9 at some point?

With the demand for these knives as it is, I can't see them not having micarta scales. It's just a matter of time, just don't hold your breath. The ETA on this knife was pushed back a couple of times.

It's cool man, not every knife is for every knife lover. I've taken my saber ground BK16 out once and it's not a love affair yet. Maybe it will become that way, maybe it won't. If it doesn't work out, I got other knives :D

You can easily fix the grip by stippling the scales. Yes, there will be micarta avail, but not real soon. It looks bigger than the Mora in the pics.

I wouldn't give up on the F1, it's a great knife. I have big hands, and love my full sized Beckers - I have a BK2, BK9 and BK10 with a BK7 on the way. I also have the Fallkniven F1 with Bark River handles and for day to day, it's easily my favourite knife. And I have the Fallkniven S1 with the standard handles and it still fits my hands well.

But as BRL says, not every knife is for every person. I recently took a Swamp Rat RMD on spec with a view to buying it, and while these forums are full of people who rave about that knife, and I have no doubt about its quality, it just didn't seem right for me and I sent it back. I do plan on getting an FFG BK16 though. :)

That new Becker looks sweet . I have a couple of 7's , a 9 and a 2. I changed all the grips to Micarta.
The grivory handles are the only thing I don't like about Beckers. I wish they just came standard with micarta in the first place. I doubt many people would be taking the micarta off and putting grivory on them.

Btw , the F1 is one of the best fixed blades going !

:)

I've decided to keep the 16. I'm going to sand down the bottom portion of the knife's butt-end and try my luck at making some micarta and blackwood grips for it. As fast as the Fallkniven. I didn't want to spend too much so I was going to get the regular one, but now, I'm starting to like the custom ones. Is it really worth to pay $100 more for it or is stock comfortable enough?

AM515, The F1 is a real winner of a blade, in my opinion, the stock handle is either a like or not like-i personally love it. The extra money for the upgrade handle is very much worth it, don't forget a leather sheath also comes with that upgrade handle, if you buy from KSF and don't like it, you can return for store credit, if you buy from DLT trading, you can return for full refund back to you, nothing to lose,- one other thing to consider with the F1, you can buy a blank and put on your own handle if your comfortable with that for around $118 blade shipped to you.

As far as your take on the BK16, I understand where your coming from, but I find that's what the beauty is about it, simple and 'pocket easy" so far it has performed excellent, I have a 16 on they way to a friend, and a 15 heading to my home.
