Hi all,

We knife nuts tend to look down on dodgy dirt cheap made-in-far-away knives, perhaps the only entry level knives that we think approvingly of are Opinels, Moras and basic SAKs.
I tend to agree and yet I succumbed to the temptation of the following cheap "scottish style" fixed blade knife: the Colt CT275, with wooden sheath and basic 440 steel, full tang. Ok I don't intend to heavily use it but I must say I really like the looks and it actually feels quite ok.

With this in mind I wonder...
(a) does anyone else here has experience to share about this knife
and
(b) what are any entry level knives about which you almost don't dare to admit that you like them?

Nope. Neat design tho.

I can't think of any offhand. I dumped all my crap knives on the 'bay after learning more about knives and their materials. I don't have any crap ones left. I admit to owning Winchester, Colt, Mtech, Frost Cutlery (not Mora), and others in the past.

I've had some rough rider knives that I've used to abuse, and was impressed with the initial quaility however that did not last to long.

looks like a nice knife.

if it catches your eye, go fo it, dont worry about what others say.

most of my fav knives are ones that the majority of people here would look down on and would advise against.

Woulda been nicer if they replaced the Colt with the Rampant Lion. But yeah, it looks pretty good.

well i have a little winchester stockman, that was givin to me as a Grad. gift and it rides in my pocket everyday! works great to open chew cans and as a tooth pic and is super sheeple friendly! also it is a great companion to My spyderco salsa or one of my BMs that i carry everyday. Then there is also times when i carry a realy cheap knife to loan people if they ask for a knife

Not at all. It's true that most of the focus in the General forum section goes to high-dollar 'tactical' knives, but with a bit of digging you can find plenty of references, recommendations, and reviews for uncommonly inexpensive knives with unusual origins.

Personally, I'm always on the lookout for something unusual or unique and am quite likely to take a chance on an unknown knife as long as it's aesthetically pleasing and priced attractively. Here are two examples: posted photo of a Xikar hunting knife, http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/showthread.php?t=633178&highlight=xikar

Well one of my favorite knives is a crkt M21. Although it's not "gas station cheap" it's also not one of my benchmades. I do wish they made them better but I like it and I never check up on cutting anything (even things I shouldn't).

One of my top 5 favorite knives is the SOG Spec Elite II...full off zytel and AUS8 it is by no means a fancy knife....but the size, style, lock, and function make it a GRRRRRRRRRRREAT knife. I only like 3-4 SOG knives in total, and this one is at the top of the list. So back on topic, if you like it, and it works don't be ashamed or unwilling to use it.

I have quite a few slipjoints from Steel Warrior and Rough Rider that I like very much. My latest is an orange smooth bone doctor's knife that was a little over $10 shipped.
