Oh wait a second, it is my birthday, I'm 25 today!
Package one: A padded envelope with the words "River City Sheaths". Inside, a new Ice Comtech Stinger. This is the new clear version, and it does have a "medical" look to it. One nice thing is that it nearly disappears in the hand. Along with the Stinger, came an olive drab Ground Pounder Kydex neck sheath on a military style beaded necklace. This rig is very small and flat, with little to no printing under a thin shirt. When it does print, the shape does not look threatening, it looks like a flat frog!!!
Package two: A Buck Strider Large Tanto! I had read that many people thought this knife was too big. I looked at the overall length and thought nothing of it. Some said it was too thick and I tryed to imagine the thickness but thought nothing of it. When the package was opened, I thought to myself, "Gawd almighty". This is the thickest knife I have ever seen! I disliked the 60 grit feel of the G-10 handles so this is what I did.
I taped off the front portion (a diagonal line from the last traction groove on top to the front of the finger choil on the bottom), and the rear of the handle (staight lines from the bolt that lies even with the bottom pocket clip screw). Mind you, I removed the pocket clip first. I used 180 grit sand paper and smoothed the flats of the handle, paying special attention to the lines I had taped off. I finished with 320 grit paper, paying special attention to the area right below the pocket clip. Voila! I now have a two tone handle with the center portion smooth and the front and end caps remaining rough. I tweaked the pocket clip tention a bit and now have a very smooth withdrawl from the pocket. This is thousands of times better that the factory setting. If anyone wishes to do this it took about $.50 worth of supplies and about a half hour of my time. I love the new look and feel. I only wish I could post a picture. It truly was a good birthday!
