So you want this knife. But your funds are low. You see them going for deals day after day after day. You start obsessing over this blade until you decide screw it! I'm selling off some stuff to fund one for myself. You sell a couple knives, watches, gear, etc. Raise enough money and BOOM! The knife you want is no longer anywhere to be found. (Used of course). You look for a couple days relentlessly. After about a week of nothing you settle for something close but not exact.... but wait. The next day you get on the exchange and BAM! Now that you have no money, here someone is with the exact knife you want down to the last detail being sold at half what you would have paid for it. Story of my life. What blades have been elusive for you guys?

It took forever to find a spear point TC Barlow from Great Eastern. Finally, one came up on the exchange for a fair price.

I have a specific list of original USA Old Timers that I 'need' for the collection. While the list is getting smaller, the remaining items are getting more difficult to find. At any price.

I once had a small group (13) knives stolen from a rental house. Took me well over ten years to find identical replacements for each, about one year per knife on average. Knife security is nothing to take lightly.

FWIW...I opened a credit card account specifically for this problem. I generally have a zero balance in the CC account and buy/sell using my PayPal account. I also have the PayPal credit option.

I fund most of my buying by selling. Recently I've not been able to sell squat and I refuse to give stuff away. Unless it's a GAW. But with this system I don't miss what I am hunting for lack of funds.

I've had this happen to me but usually I'm a lot more patient and wait a long time looking for the thing that I want. But I've still had it happen when I bought something for more than I wanted to pay after searching a long time, and then shortly afterwards finding it for a lot lower price. I think it's just a part of this hobby.

Hate it so much!! Happened to me more then I care to admit the past few years.

Happened to me not one, or two but three times when trying to get my hands on a Cold Steel Gunsite XL...

I've been wanting an Emerson CQC-8 for years, but never wanted to pay for one. Then one day I said screw it and rather than look for one, I put a WTB thread out there and I ended up buying one for 1/3 the price within a few days. Sometimes you need not look, when it will come to you ;)

Yep. It is a waiting game. Any knife you could possibly want comes up at some point. Be ready! Further, plenty of knives come up that you didn't know you want! Be ready.

Cray's right with the "be ready" part.

I'm not short of funds, I'm just not on the exchange enough. My problem is that I see a thread that got started in the morning, and I don't check the exchange until the afternoon. There's already 3 replies... "I'll take it, PayPal sent", then "Seconds!" and finally "THIRDS!".

Not a dollar short, just a day late. Patience is a virtue I guess.
