It Was A Dark & Stormy Thirty Minutes...

...Yesterday afternoon for most living in the tri-state area (PA., DE., N.J.), but the real damage was done in about the first 3 minutes around here!

You know that you're gonna get it when the power shuts off like someone hit the switch even before the storm reaches you... I just got mine back on a few hours ago after losing it around 2pm or so yesterday afternoon. A fast moving line of T-storms hit everything in its path with some of the highest straight-line winds that I can recall encountering in recent history...along with hail (which I didn't get, but heard some was the size of apples!) serious downpours, and the usual intense lightning & thunder....

I took a short stroll to get a damage assessment, and although I was one of the lucky ones, plenty of trees were feeling rather...well, vertical. At least part of them! Here's a few pix from just around the house.

My neighbor's gonna be busy this weekend...

A closeup of the tree that got snapped like a matchstick...speaking of matchsticks...if ya need some, gimme a holler! ;) The weird thing about this one is that it was on the leeward side of the woods from the wind gusts, yet that didn't seem to make a difference in the punch it received...

Another snapped tree...

The storm gods were very good to me... I lost the top of a tree, but it dropped away from the house and into the woods enough to allow me the pleasure of chopping on it at my leisure with some new Busse's!

Obligatory knife shot... I had a BWMCG strapped to my leg so I could keep both hands free to use the camera...which reminds me that I gotta order a sheath for a B11!

Amazing what even a quick storm can do. The power of Nature...NOT to be frakked with!
To folks living around this area, I hope that y'all made it through OK, and with no injuries or serious property damage. Last I heard, many still don't have their power back on yet.

Thanxx for lookin'!

Wow!!

Let the chopping begin!!

Glad you made it through unscathed Jaxx...

Glad you made it relatively unscathed! We got hammered here in Springfield, there were trees and power lines down all over the place. It was worse than any of the hurricanes I have seen come through the area. My wife was parked at the Primos train station and the roof of a daycare center got ripped off and landed about 50 feet away from her car.

Luckily we are all safe and sound but that sure was crazy and unexpected.

Glad you made it through!

At least you have the tools (/cough Busse /cough) to remove the debris :D

It was pretty crazy. I'm a bit northwest of Philadelphia. Power was out here for five hours even though the rain didn't last very long and the brunt, like you said, was done in a few minutes.

Jaxx, the chopping gods have smiled on you.:D:thumbup:

I'm glad it wasn't any worse and all is well.

You live in the Tri-State area? Near me? I didn't realize that. I'm in North Jersey, Sussex County. Where you at?

:eek: ...That's too close for comfort! Glad she & you are both OK.

Yeah, "unexpected" was the word for the day yesterday... And it was a fast moving line of destruction!

Hey, this sounds likes the perfect opportunity for the Southeast PA chopathon we've been talking about!

If you're asking me, I'm sort of between two residences ATM... Downingtown (Chester Co.) and across the Schuylkill River from Manayunk (close western 'burbs of Philly). Tomorrow I will go see if my new home fared as well, but no call from my neighbor or the alarm company is a good sign. :)

Yeah, I was. Cool... I was just curious. We got hit pretty hard for about 15 minutes, but like you said it was the most damage I've ever seen for such a short storm.

I believe they call that a straight line wind, at any rate its very powerful. We had a similar storm here a couple of years ago. I'm just glad all you guys made it through it safely.
You'll definately have plenty of Busse test material to chop up.

No kiddin'! Two back to back 2+ft. snowstorms last winter... Not even blinking power. One line of fast moving T-storms and BAM! No power for a day...and I just got back from getting some take-out from a Chinese restaurant running on a pair of generators because they still are without electricity!

Yeah, there's a good amount of us porkers around here now... We gotta all get together for some Busse fun this summer! ;)

Glad to hear you're OK....any fatwood revealed by that storm? :D

Fatwood? Not sure. Isn't that usually found in evergreen type trees? These were mostly oaks & maples, but I'll have to take a look. :)

Good to hear you didn't get nailed Jaxx! Supposedly there were verified tornado touch downs in the area. An Oak missed my deck by about 3 feet  That was a hell of a storm!!!
