Had my first blade out of 32 knives completed CRACKED. I was making a green river interpritation out of 1084 from Aldo for my brother. Realized I was out of gas for my torch, so I decided to use my forge. Since I was going to have to heat the whole blade this way I decided to triple edge quench. I then tempered for 2 hours at 390 let cool and tempered 2 hours at 375. Started sanding at 400 grit this afternoon, and there it was a nasty little crack about 3/16 of an inch.

What a bummer, had alot of time in this one!

I think I had my edge a little to thin at quench time.

A full quench is less stressful than an edge quench to both the blade and the quenching oil. If you want a differentially hardened blade, you might consider saving your edge quench for just your last quench.
