Ever since getting my Vaquero awhile ago I had been thinking about getting a 357 lever as well. I had originally determined that the Winchester Miroku would be the one and then there was a good bit of thought that the Marlin 1894 would be it as well. However after more reading and research I decided to go with the Henry Big Boy. I'm pretty sure I'm not through with lever guns and I have others in my sights as we speak but for now this is the one I decided to go with and I am happy I did.

Congrats on the new rifle! I think Henry gives pretty good bang for the buck, be sure to post back on how it shoots. I've had my eye on one in 327 Federal Magnum.

I thought I was done lusting after lever guns until I was flipping thru the latest G&A an saw the full page ad for the Marlin 1894 CST. Its a stainless model in 357 mag with a threaded barrel and peep sights.

Not very "traditional" but a very sexy rifle nonetheless!

Thank you sir. I seriously considered a new Marlin 1894 in 357 for a number of reasons and it wasn’t until recently I decided not to go in that direction. I think and I still may get a JM version later on.

Please post a follow up. I would be interested to know if it functioned well with 38 special.

More than a few comments on the Henryforum show that it will. Frankly this was one of the biggest reasons I choose this gun. Unfortunately the only ammo in 38 that I currently have is flat nose which might very well not work so well.

In spite of the rage for all things tactical in our society, you could do a zillion times worse than a good .357 revolver and a .357 lever action. That combo will cover a very great deal of real estate, especially how the .357 round really wakes up when fired from a longer carbine length barrel.:thumbsup::thumbsup:

Get a Bond Arms derringer in .357 for a hide out and you're good to go!!!

I'm Old, so I guess I'm just Old School. Besides not unlike my Single Action Revolvers there's just something kind of neat and a pleasure one can only get from the interaction you have with things like a Single Action Revolver and a simple Lever Rifle. Besides there's no better looking gun than one made from Steel and Wood. All that plastic crap just looks bad.

Totally agree! All my guns are Smith and Wesson revolvers and lever action Marlins.

I regret selling off my Ruger single action, and may remedy that in the near future.

Although all new, still mostly in that Old School Tradition.

Here's hoping you get that Single Action soon.

Cheers,

Dan

Good looking array of guns!!!

Even the double action is an old school gun. They had them when Teddy charged up San Juan hill, or whatever hill it really was. And Billy the kid's favorite gun was a Colt double action lightning. But a single action really does have a charm all it's own. Maybe that's what I get for watching too much of Gunsmoke and Have Gun Will Travel while growing up!:D

I never got to see or I just don't remember Have Gun Will Travel when growing up. I did however get to see some episodes later because of cable and I believe it to be one of the better western TV shows I've seen. Bonanza and the Wild Wild West were big ones for me. The Wild Wild West of course was a mixture of many things from time to time but it certainly had some elements of the old west.

That's nice lever gun!

I bought my first one earlier this year. I was on the fence between a rifle caliber and pistol caliber for awhile. I bought a Marlin 336y .30-30 on my 30th birthday, I thought it fitting. I've still had my eye on a .357 though.

At this point I’m trying to keeping my various calibers to a minimum. 22 is something I shoot more often. Cheaper and I get to fire more often. At this point I have a few 9mm handguns and a few 357s. I have been considering the new original Henry from Henry and that would mean yet another caliber. But D*** if that gun don’t look good. But mostly trying to keep the various calibers to a minimum.

Congrats on the new rifle. Henry builds some great ones! I've had this Old Model Vaquero in .45 Colt for a couple of decades at least. Its seen about a gillion hard use miles on the ranch:

Also carried it many a mile on pack trips in big bear country. Our good friend and neighbor that helps on the ranch a lot is partial to the Ruger Blackhawk in .357.

Just built this for a Henry Big Boy in .357. Thats one of our Marlins sticking in it for the pic before I sent the scabbard off to the customer.

This one was made for one of the Henry's with a big loop lever. Guy's gotta change his pattern a little for that one.

The wife has been eyeing one of the new Henry steel Big Boys in .357, the ones with the case hardening on the frame. Thats a sweet looking rifle for sure. Again congrats on your new rifle!

Very nice. I often given thought to get something in colored cased hardened. It seems however none are being done the traditional or old fashioned way and this often makes me pause, although I think one of these days I will get one regardless. To be honest I’m not entirely sure if it matters or not.

Great looking leather as well. This is another thing I mean to do at some point even though I have no practical application for it currently I still think about getting something even if it’s just a butt stock cover for one of my lever guns. I’ve heard they can ruin the finish if left on but I may just put it on when taking it to the range.
