Anyone else have trouble passing along a once favored knife that they just weren't using anymore ?

The first Buck knife I ever purchased for myself and my first quality modern folder was a 482 Bucklite max, and I loved that knife.
I had no interest in seeking out any other modern folders because it was everything I could have ever wanted in a pocket knife and before joining this forum it had really tamed my knife interest.
I carried that knife every day for 2 or 3 years and even though it only cost me $20 I was proud of that knife and the company who made it so I dremeled my initials into the handle.
Not that long after joining blade forums I switched to traditionals and that 482 got stashed away, for some reason I just couldn't let go of it though so I stashed it away.
The other day I came across it and decided it was a real waste to let it sit around unused, but with my initials having been dremeled into it I was limited in who I could pass it along to.

I knew my dad had some kind of one handed Victorinox he really liked lately but I figured It was worth a shot, he remembered the knife and how much I loved it and said he'd be happy to accept it.
If I ever get back into modern folders I know where it will be , but to tell the truth I'd much rather he wear it out because I know it will take a good number of years for that happens.
I'm not sure if he's carrying it yet, but I made sure it was nice and sharp when I brought it to him.

I kinda collect and always have, its in my nature....when I lose interest, I will come back eventually to it. I always do.

it's good to let things go though. glad it will get used by your father

I have a few Award knives..And I always wondered why they were sold. I can kinda understand if the owner/recipient passed away and a collection was sold but some are personalized and I would keep any knife with my father/grandfather/ brother owned and carried. And treasure it even if I didn't use it myself. My first Buck was a 500 series Prince I carried for many years as my only EDC till the blade was snapped off. I wasn't aware of Bucks warranty and the handle floated in various junk drawers and finally dissapeared. I would pay much for it and have a new blade put in now..Giving it to your dad..Priceless!

Hopefully he enjoys it as much as I used to, I know those were always his Hope's with everything he has passed down to me over the years.
I have given him knives I wasn't using before, but none of them had been on me everyday for years like this one was.

Maybe this will become a new trend, me handing things up to him instead of him continuing to hand more things down to me :D

I had a similar relationship with my dad. I’d give him things I didn’t need because I knew he’d enjoy them and wouldn’t buy for himself. When he died 90% of his guns were already registered to me.

Then I went to transfer ownership of his boats and trailers and found they were already registered to me too. He knew I’d end up with them.

That's probably why he has given me so much stuff over the years, he knows where it's ending up and would rather have the chance to see me enjoy it.
