Hi, I threw my knive at a tree and bent it,how do I take it apart so I can fix the bend? The handle is the same as a k-bar.It is made with leather bands and an aluminum end with a sloted screw in the end and a peend brass pin in the middle.I bought this knife out of a mag. 30 years ago and need to straighten it out. Thanks Dave.

I'm not sure about the knife, but maybe you should use a chainsaw to cut down trees instead of your knife, you know, being a logger and all. ;)

I'm guessing that it's bent at the guard area? Meaning the section where the blade goes into the handle?

I'm thinking that it is not safe to bend it just back. It will be weakened. If it will be for display only then fine but if you're planning to use it (applying bending onto the knife like cutting for example) then it is best to send it to an expert who will heat it then bend it to ensure integrity.

Perhaps being so old it has sentimental value?

You bet,I worked as a locomotive engineer at cpr on the mountain sub. and dispatched over 30 game animals that were hit and still alive when I came buy so I would stop the train and say goodby to them with my little friend. And yes it's bent at the guard

Ask in the custom knives subforum. More knifemakers frequent there. They would be more than capable in fixing it properly.

Good luck.

Yeah, ask in the custom knives forum or in the Maker's section.

You might also consider pampering yourself with a brand new knife.
