Welcome. You need to use a photo hosting site like imgur.com to post pictures. If you use imgur, use the BBCode in your post.

What little info I could find about Granucci Hardware Co is that they were an import company in San Francisco back in the early 1900's, closed in the 1930's, and specialized in garden, orchard, and vineyard tools. But I don't know how accurate all of that is.

Kirgar,
Thanks for the reply. The knife came out of hiding after 20+ years.
I can not remember the purchase and thought maybe when in Italy.
So a local deal, I've been in S F since the 70"s
Where / how did you find the info ? My google search came up with gelato shop. Set up or tried to create imgur account.
Trying to log in does not recognize name/password ect, re setting password same results.
will try again later

I just Googled "Granucci Hardware" and clicked on a few listings from Worthtpoint (online auction site). Sometimes the people who post things for sale know what they have and provide info, sometimes they don't. That's why I added the caveat about the info possibly not being accurate.

EDIT: Worthpoint, not Westpoint.

Granucci Hardware was usually at 643 - 649 Front Street in SF depending on year for the majority of its life, they seemed to only keep 643 Front Street after a while. They also went by Granucci Bros at the same block of addresses. Their heyday was 1910-1919, and they petered out by the very early 1930's. As mentioned, they prided themselves as being agricultural goods dealers, and importers of Italian and other European products.

I am quite familiar with Granucci Hardware and Granucci Brothers Import companies and grocery stores. Ambrogio/Ambrose Granucci is my great-grandfather and the knife you mention is one of dozens of foreign made goods that he attached his name to under Granucci Hardware or Granucci CO all in San Francisco [I live in Sonoma, CA about 40 miles north in the Bay Area]: Think Willams-Sonoma where they get high end products to their specifications and have their 'brand' on the item --- same deal.

I have many of his items, catalogues, etc etc and their final business date was early 1950 [albeit the company was well out of business just before WWII].

I would be highly interested in acquiring said knife, or at the least a pic to correlate to the catalogue item.

Very cool! Hope this works out for you, there's a lot to be said for family history. I, for one, will be curious as to how this plays out. I'd like to see some pics of the knife, as well.

Best of luck to you, sir!

Thanks.
I have about 15 knives, all over 100 years old and awesome. Best d@mn steel. Four are folding horn handled pruning knives some kitchen & rest from all the regional styles in Italy (he catered to all Italian regional preferences in style and size) I will post pics when I understand the link mentioned.

Let's see how this works. I did not bother to photograph all of them as stored mostly, but found some old ones as well as catalogue pics. The folding Pruning knife is VERY sharp and has a horn handle and comes in three sizes, very small, medium and very large/palm-size. I have almost everything in his catalogue some duplicates and some very strange items [wine presses, wine mercury specific gravity devices, clockwork roasters for meat for campfires etc etc. funny times.]
