I'm in the process of building a new gas forge from a 5gal propane tank. I just finished stuffing it with ceramic blanket now I have to coat with itc-100. No I don't want to waste it or ruin my chances of making the forge as efficient as possible. Just would like some input on how the best way to go about applying the itc-100. Thanks

You don't use ITC-100 directly on the wool.

You first put on a 1/4" layer of satanite over the wool. Let it dry and then fire it on low to cure the refractory. Once that is done, and any cracks patched, apply a thin coat of ITC-100 over the satanite. Fire the forge again on low, and slowly increase the heat to full heat.

I didn't order and santanite I wasn't sure if it was necessary. Would it work fine with just the ITC-100 coating or should I wait a few more days and order the santanite to base coat. I've also mixed the ITC-100 will that be a problem if I wait a few days to apply it. Thanks again for your help.

I also have some Rutlands castable refractory cement is that a viable material to use in place of the santanite
