I have been trying to buy an ESEE 3 and 5 for a week now but no one can tell me the information I am looking for. All of the online distributors can tell me is what they cut and paste from from the manufacturer. I call the manufacturer and they are very nice to talk to on the phone but they too cannot tell me what I am looking for. Maybe someone on this forum can answer my questions?

I am looking for an ESEE 3 and 5. The description of what I am looking for is the same for both:
1. black combo blade but not the clip point
2. black sheath
3. color of handle it doesn't matter just don't want orange.
4. pommel shape doesn't matter

The tricky point is how the sheath attaches to the belt. I wear a riggers belt and want to attach the knives to my belt. I don't want to attach it to my boot or to any molle gear. I don't plan on jumping out of a plane with it (those days are over). I have a friend with the molle attachment and wears it on his belt but it constantly comes unhooked.

So what is the item number for these knives that will accommodate attaching it to my riggers belt. The manufacturer was not familiar with a riggers style belt and they didn't know what size belt their sheaths accommodate. If you don't believe me about the molle attachments coming off try walking through thick alders in Alaska.

I know it as the riggers belt, but try Wilderness Tactical 5 stitch, they will know what that is. I have the tan 5 stitch that I wear.

All ESEE sheaths will accomodate and TekLok, and it is a 100% positive lock. They don't come with them, but you can get them at places like knife kits and jantz, or anywhere that sells kydex. They fit the riggers belt and will keep your blade with you.

I don't know the part numbers, but someone will.

You could always look into gettin' you a custom sheath built to your specs, and never worry about it again. I hope this helps.

WELCOME TO THE FORUMS!!!!!!!!!!

Patricia fielded your phone call this morning and I heard her give you some part numbers but here they are again:

ESEE-3S-MB (we do not offer the molded sheath in black as a standard item but you can order it off the web site). The -MB designates MOLLE BACK.

ESEE-5S (comes with a black Kydex sheath and a clip plate) but you may want to buy the extra MOLLE back for more security on your belt.

That's what we offer.

Thanks,

Jeff

For the 5, you just need the black blade, combo edge....

Unless I'm wrong, he only 3 that ships with a black sheath is the OD Green blade w/ orange scales. Don’t think there is a 3 that meets your criteria. I always thought the standard 3 should come with a black sheath instead of the “peanut butter” sheath, but to each their own.

As a side note, the MOLLE Locks are not the same as the MOLLE Back. MOLLE Locks are pretty much useless on a belt becasue they will come un-hooked - they are made for MOLLE gear. I personally don't care for TEK-LOKS since they make the knife ride too far out and too high.

Patricia was great on the phone. It is the molle/belt system that makes it difficult to order and I don't know if the clip plate will fit around a bigger belt. I am in the Army and am familiar with the different molle systems. I could not find pictures on the websites showing the clip plate in use and the distributors just have the info written on their website which is cut and pasted from somewhere else.

These will be hunting knives so I don't need all the different ways to attach the sheath, just a good old attach it to the belt system. Will the clip plate work for a larger belt and stay on? Does ESEE sell an attachment other than clip plate, molle, or tek-lock that just allows a belt to go through it and secure the knife? I can see how the teck-lock would make it ride to high. Maybe I can remove the clip plate and make my own belt attachment?

I doubt the clip plate will come off your belt since it's a heavy duty spring steel clip but I would still suggest the back for absolute security. Our sheaths have enough perimeter holes to make just about any type of belt attachment imaginable. The only thing we sell is the MOLLE back, MOLLE Locks, Tek Loks and Clip Plate.

I agree with you 100%, I have only one TekLok, and it for sheath patterning. I made leather for all my ESEE knives, and they thanked me. I still have the original sheaths and will get MOLLE backs for them in case I have to to a tropical climate for something.................

I wear a larger-than-average belt (5.11 TDU), and the ESEE5 clip plate works very well (there is actually room for a thicker belt) with very positive hold. You could also make a "dummy cord" for the sheath if you thought it could work its way loose, but I had no problems whatsoever with mine.

Here is the 5 on my belt with the paracord belt loop method first and then the clip plate down below. See the “ESEE-5 Passaround Reviews” sticky at the top of the page for some more info on the 5.

Here’s another pic of the 5 on the paracord belt loops. Rides a little bit higher. Always liked the paracord system myself. Very secure.
