Jerry Garcia left us on Wednesday, August the 9th.
Millions of us mourned the loss, and wished him Godspeed.
Our prayers are with him, his family, and the Grateful Dead.
Let us all begin anew to celebrate Jerry's gentle life,
and enjoy the phenomenal musical legacy he left behind!

Fare you well, my honey
Fare you well, my only true one
All the birds that were singing
Have flown except you alone
Going to leave this broke-down palace
On my hands and my knees I will roll, roll, roll
Make myself a bed by the waterside
In my time - in my time - I will roll, roll, roll

In a bed, in a bed
by the waterside I will lay my head
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

River gonna take me
Sing me sweet and sleepy
Sing me sweet and sleepy
all the way back home
It's a far-gone lullaby
sung many years ago
Mama, Mama, many worlds I've come
since I first left home

Going home, going home
by the waterside I will rest my bones
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

Going to plant a weeping willow
On the bank's green edge, it will grow, grow, grow
Sing a lullaby beside the water
Lovers come and go - the river roll, roll, roll

Fare you well, fare you well
I love you more than words can tell
Listen to the river sing sweet songs
to rock my soul

Brokedown Palace -- Robert Hunter

Jerry we all mis ya. :(

Hi T. Erdelyi-

Death is always a sad thing. He accelerated his demise with poor physical conditioning, illicit drug use, alcohol, and uncontrolled diabetes.

My fondest Garcia memory is when he and Bob Weir were talking about getting their butts kicked by the Angels at Altamont. Not because they deserved, but just because that was such a weird situation.

Yea he did do all that, but listening to a tape of him playin' Ripple at Oregon State Penitentiary in the early 80's just makes me sad to know the music he left behind is all there is.

Fortunately the amount of recorded material that was left behind was enormous, so unlike others whose musical careers were also tragically cut so short, the unreleased music will make it's way into the legion of fans who still want more.

Jerry Garcia? Doesnt he make neck ties and ice cream? :p :)

New ones coming as the old ones go
Everything's moving here but much too slowly
A little bit quicker and we might have time
To say how do you do before we're left behind

The wheel is turning
and you can't slow down
You can't let go
and you can't hold on
You can't go back
and you can't stand still
If the thunder don't get you
then the lightning will

Small wheel turn by the fire and rod
Big wheel turn by the grace of God
Everytime that wheel turn round
bound to cover just a little more ground

There never was a better 4 fingered picker than Jerry, that man had heart and man could he play the guitar. :D :)

R.I.P Jerry..

archive.org has an audio section filled with live music released into the public domain, there are a whole bunch of Grateful Dead sound board shows there for the downloadin', if anyone is ready to give up their old cassettes and get digital. Poke around a bit abd you'll find a fair bit of studio work from various artists as well. Amazing site.

He screwed up his body, and left behind a loving wife and several kids, addiction is a terrible thing. He also left behind a great body of music. He and Robert Hunter wrote some of my favorite songs, including Dire Wolf, which got him in the end. I remember hearing it over the radio, before the beginning of my junior year in high school, working at my fathers shop. At least he tried in the end. Keep on trucking Jerry!
