So, Wife sent me up to the weekend place this past weekend by myself. Couldn't ask for a more perfect opportunity to catch up on all the mods I had been thinking about doing but hadn't started, or to try to move further along with the mods already underway. So I loaded up all my toys, tools, and bought enough chemicals to poison a small country.
Here's the view from my mountain paradise:
Here's a shot after I got everything laid out but before I got to work:
And here's a shot after I was well underway:
Heck, I even setup a second station inside:
It got hectic after a while, as I was bouncing between a knife in the etch and a knife being stripped and something with dye drying and sanding or filing or or or...
I dyed hemp!
I dyed micarta! (and filed, and sanded, and oiled...)
I cut leather with my phat bob!
I put balsamic vinegar on stuff!
I put knives in the oven!
While stupidly wearing gloves with holes in the fingers!
I stripped (knives)!
I testing cold blue/bleach etching on a cheap machete that I found!
I etched a Warthog!
I talked to a hummingbird!
I made a strop!
I used that strop to fix the edge of my Wohlwend nessie!
2 1/2 days of pure modulation. I learned so much, in many cases at the expense of a cool knife. Plus I had so much fun.
I took a ton more photos so I plan to eventually getting around to making threads for what I did on each blade. It'll take me a while, plus I took my BK11 on a nice hike so that needs a thread too. All in good time. But for now, here are teasers of how each turned out.
BK2:
Stripped, patinad, oiled, and gave my LE BK10 micarta slabs the spa treatment. Already had the CRKS kydex sheath, but now... what a package.
BK10:
Got the rust out of the logos, sanded to a satiny finish, put on cocobolo scales (attempted to make liners too... more on this later)
BK11:
Stripped, etched by Beckerhead number into it, then did a blue/bleach design etch, then patinad, then did a brown dyed leather and hemp wrapped handle and lanyard. Plus one of Nick's custom sheaths.
Cold Steel Trail Hawk:
Sanded, etched my Beckerhead number and design into it, patinad, and put a higher grind on. Also stained the handle... got more to do with this one.
Warthog:
Sanded, blue/bleach etched, patinad. Not happy with how this turned out... more in the future thread.
Wohlwend nessie:
Now has no edge dings and is back to being insanely sharp.
Plenty of photos and information still to come. Thanks for reading.
