It's a sickness

As I sit here I am contemplating the purchase of my first custom folder. Why? I really don't know. I have a knife, many knives actually (by my standards). I only carry one at a time, but sometimes two. My EDC is an XM-18 and it's a wonderful knife, more knife than I'll ever need, really. At home I have an XM-24 that turned out to be too big for my liking but also a wonderful knife. I also have Benchmade's, Spyderco's, Kershaws, and a myriad of others. I have never sold or traded a knife so I currently own every knife I have ever owned. From the first slipjoint my grandfather gave me thrity years ago to my XM-24. This should be adequate, but I need another knife.

I never understood women and shoes until my wife showed me two pairs she bought yesterday and it clicked. I can relate. Like a drug addict I have built up a tolerance for lesser knives and I can only be satisfied by better and better quality. My XM-18 gives me pleasure, not just when I am using it but sometimes I just put it on my desk and admire it. I like the feel of it. It satisfies me. I don't get upset with myself for being so superficial because I think it is ingrained in us somewhere deep down since mans first use of tools. My father is a knife/sword collector and tool & die maker so it may just be in my blood. My brother, however, could care less. I don't know anyone else in my personal life that feels this way about knives but I know that there are many of us out there and this forum is a great place to "relate".

I own guns but it's just not the same for me. It's not the purpose of the tool or the "damage" it can do but the craftsmanship, the detail, the color of the metal, the movement (I'm a folder guy), the feel, the pride of ownership, and aesthetics. The only other thing that does it for me (besides women) is watches. A link also not too uncommon, I think.

If I had the funds (single and no kids) I would probably own hundreds of knives. Right now I am leaning toward the purchase of a Kingdom Armory Samaritan but there are so many good knives out there it's a tough call. I do know one thing though, I need another knife.

I recently inherited a 9mm, a Interarms Starfire. Shoots well, holds 15+1, and only had a few magazines fired through it. Problem is, I keep hearing how a 9mm doesn't have the stopping power of higher calibers.
You would think I'd be happy with the free pistol, but it's only got me wanting another. So, I can relate to the "sickness". I blame the Internet, and it's over exposure and too much information.
I can see guns, knives, and other things I otherwise didn't know existed, and didn't know I wanted.

Foxx. The 9mm pistol round has killed more people than any other pistol round in the history of the world.

I teach Concealed Carry classes here in SC (I work for a local gunstore too)
Personally I would tell you that 9mm is perfectly good enough due to the fact that the recoil is minimal and that allows you to put multiple shots on target.
This isn't Hollywood, most villains will go down with one or two shots.

Also, Strider, sorry to hijack the thread *laughs*
But I totally agree with you. It's like an addiction.
My wife looks at me funny now when my knives cost more than her italian leather shoes!

I am also a firearms instructor for the Government and I agree that there is nothing wrong with a 9mm. The extra capacity and lower recoil may make it superior to a .40 in some circumstances. The trick is to be properly trained so that you can put the rounds where you want them under stress. A double-tap with a 9 where you wanted it to go is a bizzilion times better that a 1 oz slug that missed.
