It's a Tanto and I love it

So anyways, I got my knife in finally and I love it. It is a Benchmade Mini Griptillian with a Tanto blade and the axis lock. I absolutelly love it. It's just the right size to carry in my pocket and it looks awsome. Besides the blade looking amazing and it being extremely sharp, the axis lock is by far the best feature. It is so much fun just sitting there for hours flicking it open AND shut. The ease of opening is especially important to me, because I'm a girl and one of the reasons I carry it is for some self defense...but mostly for opening boxes, letters, packages, etc.
So, I give my new knife an A+

It even has blood grooves...

She's so cute. She even makes jokes about dark ops knives. Awesome.

I'd like to note two things about this knife. I have some high end steel knives, a VG10 spyderco and a D2 version of that knife...and surprisingly, neither is as sharp as her factory edged 440C. It is absolutely the sharpest knife I've ever seen out of the box.

And second, it's the most beautifully polished blade I've ever witnessed. The tanto edge is flawless, and the shine is magnicifent.

I'm still not sold on olive drab, but she loves green.

Start cutting with it and the difference will soon become clear. I personally like 440C but it's edge retention isn't that great. Not a big deal since 440C can get very sharp and it's a 'tough' steel but it can become a pain in the butt if you don't like sharpening. Compare your D2 grip to her 440C after a few weeks.

Grats LB on gettin your new steel :)

I tossed with the grips prior to my last order, and for myself they dont fit, but for others the best of what they need, i'd say it is one of the most talked about/purchased Bm i can think of, must be something to it huh.

Now if they made it in Kawasaki racing green, and much slimmer, im on it.

Btw,nice blade choice, although i missed if it was serrated ot PE, or coated for that matter,No AM said shiny,so its not coated..
I like the shiny like an ol' wilkinson razor shiny too myself.

I wait for new one to arrive(707), and have a bid in on a used 710,i hope i get that one aswell.

Last months Am/Ex bill came in today, between knives and stones, managed to run up a G on them, so be carefull,i had no idea. I know now, i have both feet on the other side of the door myself, and ready to run ammok getting more.(Just got over LED lights, now new knives,Dam)

Shhshh...I hear rumbling in my closet,...I think its one of them damn nasty cardboard monsters that lurk in the evening hours..I have to take care of him before he does me, so sorry to carry, but enjoy your new weapon.

(P.s. These canadian cardboard monsters are no laughing matter, their big, fast, strong and hairy, if i could a get picture of one alive, wait, tonight before i skin this one, ill take pics :D )

If you like black blades, try the D2 Cabela's Grip/mini grip. I have one...personally, I prefer the shiny tanto edge aesthetically. I've tried many, many Benchmades in the last month, very nearly all of them.....a lot of them had a lot going...axis lock, good steel, benchmade quality.....but they didn't have that...feel. The 940, Switchback and most of all, mini griptilian, had "the feel" for me. Unfortunately, the 940 wasn't as flickable...but obviously, they didn't let me adjust the torx.

When I say this tanto is shiny, I mean that you can't use it in direct sunlight. It's that shiny. It is among the best looking folder blades I've ever seen.

Money is always a problem....knives are on off for me....but this summer I've been on...probably spent...about a hundred dollars. But the D2 minigrip was a gift, and I had contributions to pay for the spyderfly.

50 dollars, axis lock, benchmade quality and 440C. Whoa. If it weren't for those cheap scales, it would be my vote for best deal out there. Makes the whole knife feel a little cheap, but it ALWAYS feel solid, even when it does feel cheap. The minigrip more than the grip...better cheap scales than a cheap blade or lock.

Yep that's me, cheap and useful....not really.

Kawasaki Green, one word,.....mmmmmmmmm. I love that color. I was going to get the mini grip in lime green, but the only one they had was not tanto and had that huge hole in the blade, major turn off.

The blade is just straight, no serrations.

Good luck with those cardboard monsters WarRaven.

I would have to agree on the Canadian cardboard monsters thing, i took several down with a Mora and the help of my father, it was a great opportunity to bond.

Bond? James Bond....

I think i need to get some sleep...

Myself, I love the shiny blades.

Generally,if thier not mirror finish, I will take the time and wet sand them to that point.(My kawasaki,Is All hand wet sanded, all metal parts anyways, started doing this with my first new motorbike, took better then a year. :D )

After posting this and the terrible fight that cardboard monster put up with me, i found an bought a used BM 710 off of a another forum member.
(Was a great price on a great model, couldn't resist.)

Damn thing(Cardboard monster), bugger fell on me, had to reach around and give him a well deserved spinal stab, then he was done, just skinned and hung em up,Mirror-Saw, good thing you had a Mora and your dad, i hear they hunt in numbers at night.)

And Artfully Martial An Lizzy, stay sharp and be aware, these monsters are everywhere, bet theres some in your basement lurking about, get them before they grow into big ones.

Sorry to O/t this thread all.

Peace

I LOVE shiny blades too. Just got a CRKT M21. Nice knife. A bit bulky but I like it. Also have 2000 grip wet sand paper. Was wondering if I used this if I could brighten the blade, or end up scratching it instead. I used all my polishes on the blade, but want it to shine more.

Be prepared to be at it awhile brother...

Try shining the spine first, start with 400 'ish.

Right this minute i am reprofiling my M21-02 to 17/17 34 included edge.

I myself hate the lower grits, wheres my nerves out so i painfully started higher, thus the endurance comes into play. :D (shining and sharpening)

But, i have to say,it really sparkles now, specially the blade style.(I am considering the T6 Handle now)

On a side note, a couple knife shops in our city, asked me in front of my wifey this weekend, to take on some contractual sharpening for them and some of thier less angular customers, i am undecided yet.

Damn it, i have o/t'd this again, oops :footinmou
