I've only been a member here for a couple of weeks and I just ordered my second Becker... and I can't wait to get it!
I love to hunt and have use a variety of knives over the years to field dress deer, turkey and a few feral hogs. I had hoped to go on a feral hog hunt with dogs, so I wanted to get a good knife to finish the hunt. I looked and looked online and found this forum as a result. Long story short, I ended up buying my first Becker... BK7. When I got the knife, I ran it down the inside of my forearm just for kicks... The blade grew a brown fur coat! That thing is seriously sharp! Last night I took the grivory scales off and into my shop with good intentions. I build custom turkey calls on the side, so I have a number of domestic and exotic woods on hand, along with all the tools I need to work up some custom scales. It's supposed to rain this weekend, so... hopefully pictures will be soon to follow.
Although I have only been able to use my BK7 to slick my forearm (hog hunt didn't work out, but a nice turkey died in OK) I look forward to using it this fall. I have wanted something to split the pelvic bone of whitetail deer for the past few years, but didn't want to carry a hatchet. I think I found the solution. I am also eyeing a black bear hunt when archery season hits here in AR, so maybe I can put it to work then as well.
The 2nd Becker I just purchased is the BK14. I have been using a Piranta to open my game animals for the past 2 seasons, but it may stay in my pack if the BK14 does what I think it will... I have my eye on the BK16 as well...
