Well, not really...but I'm a prepper, and I like to do things early. I went and told my wife that I would do the Christmas shopping for some of the males in my family, and of course I immediately thought of knives. Who woulda thought?

Anyways, here is my problem. They are three different people, on many levels, and I'm not wanting to spend a whole lot of money but I like to buy stuff that's of good quality and not going to break in a couple months. I'm coming here to ask you guys' help on some recommendations for each person. I'll post a little info and I'd like a recommendation for each. To start it off, I'd like to note that I'd only like to spend around 30-40 bucks on each person(I know, I'm cheap). Second, I would like these all to be folders. I'm a fixed blade guy, but these guys need folders.

First off.

Grandfather-
Old school but is very open to different knives. He'll use just about anything. I had originally thought about buying a nice Case for him and perhaps getting a name engraved on it, but then I thought about it and here rises the problem. A few years ago, he had two of his fingers cut off and sewn back on so there is pretty much absolutely no feeling in them. To add to it, he has extremely large hands/fingers so a Case just doesn't seem like a good option, considering he'd have a hard time just flipping the blade out. I want it to be a sort of EDC blade. Perhaps you guys can give some insight or any other knife suggestions?

Second.

Father-
Extremely hard worker. Works everyday of the week and -hard-. He's an ironworker, welder, heavy machinery, etc. The list goes on and on, but anything you can imagine to do with metal, he does it. He has been EDCing one of those Gerber Evos for a very long time now, and I just want to get him something better. Only problem with this guy, he is very hard on knives. I know this is very bad, but he uses them for everything. A screwdriver, a prybar, etc. All the wrong things to use a knife for. I've been looking around, but I just really can't figure out a good blade to suit for him. I need help.

Third.

Little cousin-
This one is alot different. He has pretty much no experience with pocket knives. I'm trying to introduce them to him and show him the importance of one. That being said, I had originally thought about getting him a SAK. Every boy needs a SAK, but then I worried about him using the knife for something and it possibly closing on his fingers, considering there is no lock. I really want to get him a SAK, but that's just one of the things I'm worried about. Plus, his mom is totally paranoid about everything so I prefer it to be plenty safe. Trust me, before I actually give him the knife I'll be instructing him thoroughly about safety with knives, but we all make mistakes and get bitten.

So, that's pretty much it. I need help with all three of these, and I've been sitting around for the past couple days just trying to think about it all to myself. I need you guys' help. That's what BladeForums is for, right? :) If you guys need anymore information, just ask and I'll answer. Thanks alot for the help ahead of time, guys. I really appreciate it, and probably would have went crazy without the help. I have a hard enough time picking knives for myself. Oh, and one more thing, I would prefer if they were three different knives. Thanks.

Grandfather - Izula
Father - CS Voyager 2011 or Recon 1 2010
Little Cousin - the rounded tip opinel

Grandfather- Case Sodbuster (easy to pinch open, cuts like a laser, and very tradtional) or a nice Opinel in one of the exotic wood handles.

Father- Spyderco Delica 4 or Endura 4 (very tough and easy to open, still cuts well and is of very good quality), Ontario RAT 1 (inexpensive, tough, nice knife).

Cousin- Victorinox or Wenger SAK, Opinel, Case Sodbuster, Boker Subcom, Kershaw Zing, Scallion, Chive, or a Buck Vantage (the smaller one).

I agree with the above people. for your grandpa, I would suggest a speed bump becuase you don't have to use your finger on the flipper. you can use the inside of the knuckle and it works just as well. for your dad, look into the Kerhsaw Junkyard Dog II, for 2 reasons. 1, it is very, very beefy. 2, if he breaks it, he can send it to kershaw and they will either give him a new knife or replace whatever needs to be replaced for free. for your cousin, I think a Kershaw Leek would be good. you can get blemished ones very cheap, and, not only do they lock, but they also have some resistance while closing the knife so that he would actually have to think about it instead of doing it absentmindedly. besides, they are fun in the extreme. even on the blemished one, if the torsion bar breaks, then kershaw will send you a new one, as well as any small parts needed. you can't get major repairs done becuase it is a blem, but it is so cheap you can afford to replace it.

Why not get your dad a Leatherman? Sounds like a TTi would be perfect for him. At least when he wants to use the knife as a screwdriver....it was made to be used so.

I'd roll with a leatherman for all except your granddad. Loved my wave before it got stolen. I still need to replace that. Granddad, I'd get him a nice fixed blade. Which one would depend on what you're legally allowed to EDC there.

Grandfather - Spyderco Delica or Endura (if he likes a larger knife)

Father - Leatherman Multi-tool. If he has a handy option maybe he won't use his blade for prying, or as a pry-bar.

Little cousin - Spyderco Dragonfly or Spyderco Cat[/QUOTE]
