This is one of those days that makes me want to stop making knives. First I was putting a final polish on an handle when I got careless with the buffer
and it threw the thing halfway across the shop and broke about 3/4 of an inch off the tip of the blade. No way to fix that one. So I brushed myself off and started another one. Had it ground and was heat treating it and when I quenched it I pulled it out of the brine and POW! cracked right in two. :barf: . So I cursed a little and started again. Finally after a full day in the shop, a day that I have been looking forward to for a week, I finished a blade at 8:30. Ive had failures before but usually they are spread out a little more. Oh well, next week I'll be at it again. But I did learn alot. First you must respect the buffer 'cause that little bundle of cotton bites back :grumpy: . Second if its 40 degrees outside and your brine is the same temp. warm it up before you quench
. Lessons learned.
