It's been a good six months

I discovered Chris Reeve when I saw a Starbenza on the Wilson Combat site. It looked nice but I thought I would never pay that much for a knife. Thinking on it for a year or so, of course I did.

I really wanted a Micarta with satin scales to go with my two-tone Wilson but CRK couldn't or wouldn't build that; apparently the scales are finished on Micarta knives after the inlay is installed. So I ordered a small ebony Sebenza with a stone washed blade, silver hardware and a double thumb lug. That engendered a five-month wait and during that period a good friend turned 60 so I bought him a small snakewood Sebenza (no photo). While discussing that with my brother a couple weeks later, I decided he needed a present too and bought him a small cocobola (also no photo).

Although my knife ultimately arrived with none of my changes it was so pretty I didn't really care and besides, I'd already waited five months for it. However Nick at KnifeCenter and Heather at CRK convinced me to send it back and it was done.

And I honestly think it matches great.

So now, to be completely ridiculous, I just ordered a small mammoth bark.

So that's four in what, six months?

I am confused what do you mean it did not arrive with any of your changes? I get kinda lost when reading things sometimes. I ordered an umnumzaan 3 months ago, loved it so ordered a sebenza 21 ebony 2 weeks ago. I decided to send them in, i wanted double lugs on my seb and as shameful as it is i was afraid to sharpen my umnum. So two days ago i was missing them so i went ahead and ordered a small seb ebony. Lesson learned to always keep 1 crk knife on hand :).

That's correct; the ebony arrived with a polished blade with a gold single lug. Nick convinced me to send it back and Heather expedited stonewashing the blade and installing a silver double lug.

I am sort of anxious about sharpening them as well. I bought the Spyderco but would really like not to screw anything up.

Thanks for the welcome. These are really sweet knives.

Great collection, I agree that the Seb compliments that sweet WC 1911 very nicely-as does the StarTac.

So how do I get on that gift list ;D

Thanks for the welcome. There's room on the gift list but the friendship, I am told, can be onerous.
If anyone has a reassuring word on sharpening pass it along.

Ah yup, I was freaked out to sharpen my first 21. Took me a while to build up the nerve, and this from a guy that does a ton of sharpening!

In the end I took a great deal of time and care on my edge pro clone and got fantastic results. If you have decent eyesight, decent light and patience you will be fine. :)

As for sharpening.....I find I can keep mine really sharp with the ultra fine stones on my Sharpmaker and then stropping on my Wicked Edge. My Insingo was very sharp from the factory so I have not had to get more aggressive or re-profile with my Wicked Edge yet. When I need or want to re-profile I will heed Strigamort's advice and make sure I have lots of light and patience when I clamp it in my Wicked Edge.

Thank you very much. Am hoping not to screw it up.
Quick Q: what are the differences among the "classic", the 21, and the 25? Also, is that all there are, or were there other variations as well?

Great collection.
Nice of you to give Sebies as a present.
There is a thread, which is sticky, which is called "timeline".
Maybe that's the best source for the explanation of the different models.
If you see the pictures is much easier to understand.

Thank you all so much. I'd found an earlier thread explaining it but the photos were all deleted.
