It's been a long hard road

Hi everyone. It has been a while since I have posted here in BF and just wanted to check in.

Not everyone here remembers me, but for those who do, Hi again.

So the journey was long and hard. College. It sucked. But back in May I graduated from the University of South Florida with a Bachelors in Business Management. Then came the hard part, finding a job. I got lucky and was able to jump aboard a defense contracting company. Well one thing I have kept saying since graduation was that I would get a gift for myself. I actually haven't bought a new knife in over a year. So I figured I should get one. Well I just haven't found one that has really caught my attention. Crazy to say this but I am supremely content with what I have. As I was searching eBay I found this lovely gem:

I tell myself it was fate since I was able to find this with noone else bidding on it. I was willing to go much higher. I am not a fan of the gaps in the backsprings, but hey, I can make do. Besides, my favorite company is Schrade. The only knife I would truly want more is a bone handled Schrade 8OT. So I am happy about this purchase beyond belief.

Anywho, I was playing on eBay again and found another knife. A bit rarer in my eye. German. Ooh I love me some vintage German knives. I was able to get in touch with the seller and discuss a few things and tonight I finalized my "Congrats on getting a job to pay off my school loans!" gift to myself. It looks like it will be a wonderful knife.

So in conclusion, I just wanted to stop in, say hello everyone. I haven't forgotten about this place. I still lurk here when I can. My knife addiction is still strong. I can't wait to get these bad boys into my pocket and get a beautiful patina going. This coming week will be good, no doubt about that.

That Schrade looks like it will prove to be a mighty fine pocket companion. Don't recognize you, probably not been on here long enough too, but welcome back and congrats on getting a job!

Good to be back guys. I'm gonna try to get active here again. Make time. I am enjoying going through all the old threads, forgot how much I missed it.

Couple of nice ones you got there. Look forward to seeing you around.

Hi Corey,

I moved to St. Petersburg in 1959 and graduated from Boca Ciega HS in '71. Joined the Navy same year and came back in '77. Went to SPJC '78-80 and graduated from USF with Bachelor in Engineering Technology, computer option in '82.

I've only been on the forums since January so I didn't know you online before but welcome back anyway!

Corey, will you please post back here and let us know if the 881 has any blade play. I believe this one is built with a Swinden Key for attaching the pivot pins to the bolsters. If the Swinden key rotates a bit when the knife is being re-assembled, blade play can result.
Don't let this dampen your excitement as it is a very beautiful knife. I mention it as most people are not aware of this difficulty encountered when re-building most Schrade USA folders.

Congrats on graduating and getting a job!
I'm a bit of a newbie here with a serious knife obsession that was rekindled some time last year. Finding this forum sealed the deal :D

Welcome back, Corey, and congrats on the new gig. You're now a man of substance! (And good taste in cutlery!)

Thanks all. I think I have semi decent taste in the knives. I give credit to everyone here for helping develop that taste. And I am confident in the HW Schrade. I know it uses a swinden key. Luckily H.W. was a Schrade repair man for 24 years. If anyone knows how to spruce up a nice Schrade it should be him.

Congratulations on achieving your degree, Corey, and welcome back!
You deserve that knife (and maybe a couple more!).

Contratulations! And, welcome back! Wishing you success in your new career, and in your resumed hobby! :)
