It's been a good long time since I've posted on bladeforums, I used to be such a spyderco fanboy a year ago and now I've moved on to jetbeam, fenix and inova...

anyway, for the past several months I've come to love and use (almost exclusively) kershaws.

Well, it's time for a new knife, I got a raise and a promotion today at work, so I've earned it.

Knives I've already had:
leek
cyclone
bunch of spydercos
a few benchmades
shallot

anyway I'm looking for something super nice (pretty but still can hold it's own)...I found a 100$ amazon gift cert the other day I'm looking to burn, any suggestions?

Things I was looking at:
The RAM (so cool.)
benchmade 930 kulgera
benchmade 710
kershaw dam leek
...any other suggestions?

ps: the kershaw mafia cracks me up

....definitely one of the Benchmades :D

The RAMs are fun and the DAMs are super nice. You really can't go wrong wither way for the cash. The Composite Leeks are cool too. I wish you much luck finding exactly what you are looking for.

Look at the Kershaw Skyline and Ram. Both are very fine knives. The Skyline is amazing for around 30 dollars!

I'd say get the RAM. I'm barely able to put mine down. This one's certainly "pretty and able to hold its own".

Very nice firebert! Is that another new set of wood scales, or did you just do some torch work on the first set get the tigerstripe?

Phil,
There are definitely some nice versions of the Blur out there that are great to look at AND use. I'm not a huge trac-tec fan, so I often carry the OCC Blur, with the all aluminum handle.

Also, the new all black ENER-G II is an awesome knife!! It gets a lot of pocket time.

Good luck,
Jon

Now that looks amazing firebert, get one with a black blade with that wood inlay and dang..... *whistles*

Definitely check out the RAM, skyline, Energ's, new leeks and blurs (including blue blur :D )

And the Groove, I almost forgot about the groove :)

+1 on the Groove!

I also have the 930 Kulgera which I just got recently and its a great, beautiful knife with smooth action and locks up super tight. I'd recommend it!

I'm in the market myself, and that wood-lined RAM looks awesome. Is it available with wood scales like that, or is that a modification of some sort? Also, how's the lock, and does that thing have an AO feature?

I made the RAM scales. This one is made from a piece of exhibition-grade snakewood I just acquired.

I'm a big fan of the HawkLock on the RAM. It's very strong and easy to use (even for lefties). This knife is not spring-assisted, but it doesn't need it. The opening is just as fast and easy as on my SpeedBump. It does take a little getting used to, but that isn't a problem. The action is really addictive.

Well, my compliments on the scales - they look really, really nice, and I'll bet they're even better in person. How difficult would you say it is for a beginner to put together something decent on his own? I'd love to have a piece like that, but I don't really have a custom knife budget at the moment.

If you like the Benchmade Axis lock you'll love the RAM's Hawk lock, plus its got a flipper. No flick of the wrist necessary
I forget it ISN'T an assisted opener when I open it.
It operates that smoothly and effortlessly.
Every flashaholic should have one ! :)

I'm pretty much settling on the RAM at this point.

The benchmade's are a bit...fluffy for the price point and I was really surprised when I handled a skyline the other day...not really thrilled with it at all...

Anyway
thanks for the advice everyone :)

I think you'll love it Phil. I liked my 1st one so much, I bought 2 more.
