It's been an "interesting" week!

So Monday morning I woke up an hour early; my right eye was dry and my neck/ear was sore enough I couldn't get back to sleep. So I dragged my butt out of bed to get ready and noticed I couldn't close my right eye. Hmmm...that's odd I thought but shrugged it off and went to work. Once there I realized the whole right side of my face was paralyzed! But I stuck it out the whole day deciding to hit urgent care on the way home. Long story a bit longer, they felt is was probably Bell's Palsy but I'm a white guy at that age where guys start dropping of heart attack and stroke so they sent me to the ER for a workup.

So, fours later I've had an MRI, blood work, and IV of drugs, etc and they ruled out a stroke or tumor (whew!:D). Yep, Bell's Palsy, and my BP was high. Honestly I was pretty glad that I have decent insurance when they said "MRI"! I got a script for Prednisone and a steroid, plus a BP med. Odds are good that I'll recover completely in a few weeks to maybe a month. In the mean time I have to tape my eye shut when I sleep so I don't dry out my cornea and go blind. The doc dropped that on me and left, no instructions on how to do it but no pressure.

It sucks but to be honest I'm feeling pretty lucky! I'm glad it wasn't a stroke or a tumor. There's really no exact cause, it's just something you can randomly wake up with. Luckily it's not contagious nor particularly dangerous if you treat it, just something to make my life that much more "interesting".

At any rate, that's why I haven't been on much this week!:p

Yikes! Glad it wasn't anything too serious. I hope you bounce back quickly.

Hang in there, Rob! Sounds like a scary thing to be sure.

One of my workmates up in Illinois had that same thing - it started to go away after a few weeks and he is totally 100% now.

Glad it was not one of the more serious causations!

Now go figure out how to tape that eye shut (can't believe they didn't give you better instructions....)

best regards -

Today I got some ointment and some better tape. I have Leukotape but that stuff's so stick it would pull my eyelid clean off!:D So I used blue painters tape, better but kind of sharp and papery. Today I got some softer medical tape with a bit less stickiness which I think will work well. The dryness of my right eye is annoying and affects my vision slightly, enough that I'm going to try to avoid driving at night until it's better.

I expect it to completely heal and stuff, just another gift from the year that won't stop giving!:poop:

The eye is really a PiTA! Makes it hard to focus on anything. I was gonna watch Netflix to distract myself but the dry eye gets worse then. I'll live but I can't wait for this to improve.

Wow, hope you get back 100% and do it fast. In the meantime - why don't you get some eye drops, I believe there are some that are developed exactly for dry eyes. And even the normal ones, often referred to around here as artificial tears, should give you quite the relief.
